From the City of Huntsville, note this not the Mazda Toyota manufacturing plant nearing completion but the existing Toyota Engine Plant .

Great news! Huntsville’s Toyota Motor Manufacturing Alabama will be the exclusive North American producer of the twin-turbo V6 engine for the 2022 Tundra. The new twin-turbo V6 engine line represents a $288 million investment in Toyota Alabama operations as well as 450 additional jobs, bringing total employment to 1,800.

The trend in the US is toward electric vehicles, and some manufactures plan to phase out internal combustion engines by certain dates, such as 2030. I wonder what will happen to this plant when that phase-out begins for Toyota (and it no doubt will at some point).

Probably will convert the facility into some sort of electric motor support facility. Seeing that they invested so much in the area and already own the building, they can do what they want with it and even add to it. I'm sure that's already on their minds. Most of the time though all of these jobs announced by these companies don't get filled. It might take a decade to get close to that 1800 number they are saying, and by then things could change.

Call me skeptical. A twin turbo that isn't a major power boost seems like dealer repair shop accountant's version of heaven. With everything going electric, buy four of the engines, never use them, and sell them on eBay in 50 years.

It is a move to get basically the same power as the current V8 or possibly a little more but at the same time bet better fuel economy. People who use trucks as trucks do not want electric trucks yet. Everything isn't going to go all electric in the near term. At some point they may introduce an electric line at that plant but for the next 10 to 15 years they will be good with the gas engines.

Toyota is not alone in moving their trucks to turbo V6 engines.

Sorry if this has been asked already - I searched the thread and didn't find anything.

Anyone know what is being built at the corner of Browns Ferry and Plaza Blvd in Madison? Across Plaza Blvd from the Madison County Service Center DMV.

I’ve been wondering that myself. Anybody?
