My husband just got a job with Jacob's Engineering in the Westchase area, zip 77072. I wanted to know what that area was like and if there are nice apartments in the area or if we should live elsewhere and commute a bit.

If we should live elsewhere, where are some nice places to live?
We are a mid to late 20s couple who like a fairly quiet, safe area and want an apartment with a garage, pool and fitness center somewhere around $1200.

We are originally from Colorado and Alaska, so we don't know anything about the area. Any info would be wonderful!

Thanks so much!

I think the best in the area is Royal Oaks or Shadowlake. There are lots on nice apartment communities in the area but I do not know anything about them. They definitely don't look like the type of apartments to avoid when in Houston. There are also some good looking ones on Dairy Ashford. There is also West Houston Hospital, several driving ranges, walmart, fine dining etc etc at walking distance
i live on 77072 but on the other side of the tollway the cheapside

My husband just moved into the Westchase area a few months ago to start a new job on the west side. It seems like a nice area and lots of apt. complexes to choose from. Dairy Ashford is a nice area. But apt. complexes can be iffy. There have been 3 muggings in his apt. parking lot in the past month and it looks like a "nice and safe" place. He is in the 77077 zip. Good Luck!

there are lots of cheap apartments in the westchase area (and everywhere in houston). Avoid these at all cost.

I'd go north, to the 77079 or 77077 zip code. There are problems right now with the Westchase area, though the kinks are getting worked out, I'd say better safe than sorry.

Do a Google search for: Westchase Houston Crime

You'll see what I mean. Unfortunately, those cheap apartments houguy is referring to have housed a TON of Katrina evacuees, and some of them are causing big-time problems.

Im in 77077.
if you want an apartment look down on eldridge between memorial drive and westheimer, there are quite a few upscale apt complexes in the area.
I live in a TH off of kirkwood/memorial, a safe area, but im only a couple of blocks from the katrina "people" ;-)

I work for one of Jacob's eng. competititors. the majority of the engineering companies in houston are on the west side of town...

Thank you all for your input. I am really appreciating it!

Does anyone know anything about the Villas at Huffmeister (zip 77095) or Villas at Westheimer (zip 77082).

Thanks and keep the info coming!!
