Westchase is ok for a business district. It's getting better, but as a place to live....they have a whole lot of Katrinaville to contend with, clean up and knock down before the people that work there will want to live there.

I wouldn't call the felonies of GTA and burglary of a habitation "petty crimes" either. Maybe they didn't do any research, but the apartment complexes were/are pretty nice, with $ 4 digits/mo in rent to boot. You know, "trying to set a higher standard of living" before being a proud parent of a 30 year mortgage.

I think I've had it better missing work 1-2x a year due to flooding to our north/west, and dealing with one car stereo theft than either one of my friends who had their Westchase area misfortunes. It's just my opinion though -- I guess some people may prefer to have their home/belongings/person violated instead.
I guess you need to work on formulating your opinions. you dont want people formulating your style of opinions about the Southeast side because it had the most publicized crime of 2007 (ewww you got criminals from south of mexican borders)., i bet you dont care

I think the long awaited section between Eldridge and Highway 6 might be under construction soon. Eldridge is being prepped for the increased traffic. That's all what the county has to do to provide alternatives to the Westpark Tollway. Now it's the city's responsibility to finish the other carriageways through Shadowlake and Royal Oaks (and finishing off the carriageway on South Kirkwood would also be appreciated). The reason Royal Oaks is like that is because it used to be a general aviation airport.

so aksingingbreeze, just to clear this up for you, the job i believe is in westchase(south) near very chinatown. westchase is a faily large business district, many small time businesses and and crappy outfits are there too (north and south of the tollway) and is surrounded by cheap homes and apartments. no one wants you to live in any of these. we are leading you outside of the business district which is around west of kirkwood. I hope you can distinguish the "westchase area" and nicer places accessible to the westchase area in people's messages

people's danger radar in houston is odd to me. i think its minimum of 5miles for other folks before they call a place safe which explains the extreme-suburbs

Thank you all so much for your help. It has been invaluable. I am definitely looking at places outside (mostly north) of the Westchase area. I have looked a little bit at places in Katy and some in the Houston area on the NW side and one down south (Gateway at Sienna Plantation) and I think one in the Cypress area.
Thanks again!

That website is an H-town commuter's best friend (or worst enemy).

But remember, it can take 10-15 minutes to get on the freeway, and 10-15 minutes (sometimes longer) to get to your house after you exit the freeway. Certain sections of certain suburbs get really choked up at times.
