Hi guys, Houston native here wondering about how my hometown is doing now? I haven't been back to Houston in at least six months and before that I was only there for six months. I'm in LA now and will have to finish my contract in a year from now, but my boss offered me my old job back with CA pay which would be quite a salary to start off with in H-Town.

I keep hearing that Houston has grown so much and that it's the place to be for any upward mobile professional. Is this true? Just how much has it grown and how much will you guys expect it to grow?

Would you guys move from LA to Houston if you were offered a near 50k salary to work? How comfortable would one be?

Sorry to bombard people with all the questions but I am just wondering how different my life would be from CA to TX now.

How much different do you actually expect it to be after only six months? Well when you left, it was spring, now it's fall(ish). Uhh, the trees have fewer leaves?

I know it's funny that I was there for six months but never really explored the changed landscape. I was in Spring and basically just went to work and made it home and on the weekends stayed in. I think I saw midtown and downtown like once or twice while there. Basically I was biding my time and waiting to be shipped off to LA. I never really gave Houston a chance. I love LA a lot and wouldn't want to leave but a CA salary in a low cost city sounds tempting. Especially since a lot of my friends from Houston are ballin' outta control making 50k, whereas you're barely scraping by in LA with that salary (unless you live in the ghetto).

I just want to know what's been added, what new places there are to hang out and party. I heard they opened a Trader Joes out there! And they finally extended the rail!

You think Houston has changed dramatically in six months?

good lord people, I haven't seen the real development happening in midtown, downtown, the heights or any of that area. I basically stayed out in Spring and visited my parents in Katy. The only real development I saw for months was a long the Beltway and 1-10. I rarely if ever ventured into the city. I was biding time I until I was shipped off to LA. I didn't give inner loop Houston a chance and that's what I am basically asking about; inner loop Houston. I have no interest in knowing about life in the burbs.

I'm curious, how well do you live in LA on 50k a year? Where exactly in LA do you live?

In six months, Houston is now exactly like NYC and Chicago. Apartment leases have increased 800%. Christianity is no longer the choice religion of residents. Football is out, soccer is in.

It's crazy man!

50k is enough to afford a decent apartment in a section called North Hollywood which is half nice and half ghetto, and I live somewhere in between the two. I am living well here because I lack a car payment or student loans but a lot of people saddled with debt and the high cost of living are just barely scraping by.

I just keep seeing a lot of my friends back home living it up off of less than that. Single life, 45k, sharing a luxury apartment in midtown with a roommate, nice cars, etc. I mean the single 30k millionaire life that exists in Texas cities.

I thought it was stupid until I kept reading about how Houston has grown and is rapidly reaching world class status with it's endless development. Honestly I never thought Houston even get an H&M (which is status symbol for most world class cities LOL) but you guys already opened up three!

Are you guys seriously just not reading my posts or love reading your sardonic quips?

I haven;t seen inner loop Houston in years. I haven't really ventured into it in years. I've been living in the boonies, seperated from all life and was there hiding out until I reached LA.

Good lord, not even the NY/LA forums are this sarcastic.
