We do travel a LOT so one time when I got back to cell service I noticed bogus charges on one of our accounts. I called and was told that I had already paid the bill....they were so sorry, but there was nothing they could do about it. After a bit of effort I finally got them to recind the bill.

But my favorite autopay story is Sirius XM. To cancel their autopay option, I had to have the Consumer Fraud Division, of the Attorney Generals Office for the state of Washington to send them a letter to cancel the autopay.

That was a real time saver, though I did find out that corporations are much, much nicer to the Attorney General of the state of Washington than they were to me!!!

Technology is great when it works. It is a nightmare when it does not.

Oh, I have been banking by mail with my credit union since 1978. I have not been in there since 1986 or so. Total visits have been three or four in person since 1978. That included car loans, mortgages, and personal signature loans.

Banking by mail works much better than internet banking!!
Different strokes for different folks.

Online banking and bill pay has been great for me.

And self-checkout has never been difficult for me to use. I live right next to a Wal-Mart and it is virtually always packed. I'd rather use the lines with the cashier but they are always packed too. So I usually use self-checkout. It's not that complicated really.

1) your account got hacked which can happen even if you never use your card.
2) Never set autopay with Sirius XM, everybody knows that.
The water and electric company company though? Pretty sure not paying is much of an option. Pay with your credit card, collect the reward points, then pay off the card, and save the stamp money. I make about $20-$50 a month in reward points because I use the card for everything. Never made an interest payment in my life.
Technology works if you know how to use it.

Technology is the root of economic growth. If you believe that economic growth is a scam (finite planet, infinite demand), then yes technology is a scam.

I wish consumer technology froze in the mid 2000's; for me I had every convenience I needed. Regardless, most of it today is a money making venture as people want the latest and greatest even if they don't need it. The technology that I wish excelled is the technology focused on the environment and the medical field.

Actually, there are a billion more people to feed resulting in even more ecosystem damage.
We need to use that technology in lieu of traditional agricultural methods.

Its not the ecosystem that is keeping people from getting fed, it is the Governments of the nations that those people live in that are keeping the people from getting few. Look at Venezuela. That was one of the top South American Nations at one time. Socialism has destroyed the nation. The people have no food, no jobs, and have lost everything. All because of the Government.

As it is you can take all 7 billion people bring them to the United States and all could eat just fine here in this Nation. All could live just fine here in the United States. We have plenty of space for the people of the world right here in the USA.

Regardless of Venezuela, the state of Louisiana is losing an acre per day of wetland to population growth.
This ties into my topic, as billions were spent on technology after Katrina. Most experts agree it won't save New Orleans should they get hit again.
And you think we have room for another 7 billion?, would it be your intention of using our national parks for crops, pigs, cattle, and chickens or will the government use eminent domain for private land??.

The day you think everything was better yesterday is the day you become officially old.

Most likely spoken by a YOUNGER person. I'm speaking as an OLDER person. Everything was good back THEN, but we all worked harder for what we had...we didn't pull out plastic and say "charge it"...

I don't dislike today's world, lots I would like were different, but the good old days were that,,GOOD.
