Nikki,
Please post some nice photos of Downtown Macon after 8 o'clock. We are interested in the busy downtown area of Macon. When I was there last year it was a virtual ghost town.

I spent this last week working at Ft. Benning. For whatever reason I could not get a room in the normal motel I stay at near downtown (uptown I guess). There must be something going on around town for a large motel like that to not have a room available. So, for the first time in many visits, I stayed in Phenix City this go around. Although not very big, I enjoyed the area.
This week has only cemented my opinion between these two cities (Columbus and Macon). Columbus wins hands down. No contest. And another thing... while driving around the base I was blown away at all the different construction projects going on. From new housing (damn nice, too), to big wharehouse like buildings, there is a lot going on at Ft. Benning. This looks like growth (as in expansion) to me. I may be wrong, but whenever I see major construction I just think growth. I do not see much expansion in Macon. I just see movement. Relocation, if you will. Outside of Augusta I cannot say I have seen so much growth in the secondary cities. Now I can say I see it in Columbus.

Thanks for the honest post Bulldawgfan! Glad to see you had a great time. I will be out this weekend with a bunch of friends from Atlanta and Charleston, SC. We will definitely be going downtown tonight. Thanks for the opinion!

unless you are military or 35+
Columbus is boring.

Bulldawgfan, besides the Macon Mall to Shoppes at River Crossing "movement"...most of everything else is not relocation, especially southern bibb county.

Not that Columbus is bad, but I dont think I can care for Columbus unless all of these wonderful projects going on actually makes the city feel as big as it's population indicates.

Until that happens, it will just feel like a bigger warner robins to me.

Well, King_9.5,

I must admit that I do not spend a lot of time in Macon. Mostly I just drive through. But I just have not seen the construction you mentioned in south Bibb County. What I have seen was buildings that were damaged from the storms still in the same condition they were in a year ago. Decaying. I see empty buildings and parking lots all down Eisenhower. I know they built the new strip mall near I-475... it just seems as if a lateral move took place. Pretty much the same thing with the malls. I did notice where they have cleared out a good sized piece of land north of Riverside off of I-75. The area around the Bass Pro Shop seems to be growing. But is it real growth or just more movement away from the city? I cannot tell.
In regards to Columbus, well, I have to stay in and drive around the city due to work. I live close to Macon but have spent more time in Columbus. This week I saw a part of the Columbus metro I never have seen before, Phenix City. Robins Air Force Base may employ more civilians than Ft. Benning, but the construction going on at Benning is really quite amazing.
If I had to chose between the two I would no doubt chose Columbus.

King_X, why even bother wasting your time and stooping to the lower level of responding to any of Bulldawgfan posts, Its clear that He hates Macon and is a true Hater, so no matter what you say he is always going to try and turn it around to make it out to be something negative or just end up bashing Macon all together.... its senseless to bother posting responses to his posts ANd he talks about there is no real growth in Macon just move movement;give me a break!!!! That Sounds just like something a dummy would say......I have created a entire forum on this site which has out line all the project of growth in Macon including the proposed , Current under construction and etc.... https://www.city-data.com/forum/georg...le-retail.html
I have also posted a very long list of projects and new operations which has move into the area as well as new expansions......I have Also posted an article which clearly recognized Houston county as one the U.S. and GA's fastest growing counties and he turns posts comments which referred to Macon and Warner Robins as not seeing real growth, give me a break......Macon's Metro has higher number for growth than Columbus and I don't recall seeing Muscogee county or Columbus listed on the top fastest growing counties or cities rooster..... So Why are you wasting your time debating with "MacondawgHater" its a waste of time.......So why bother.

Bulldawgfan, it's as if Columbus caters more to

1-The military .....first and far most
2-Family

which is GREAT for that......but not single people in there teens and 20s

Those areas you see around Eisenhower and Pio Nono is south macon (city limits) not southern bibb county.....

The whole Hartley Bridge/Rutland area is building up out that way and looks nice

I totally disagree. I have been out in downtown Macon many times because I have several friends at Mercer. There is just more to do in Columbus for nightlife hands down. Broadway in downtown Columbus is filled with bars, clubs, restaurants, coffee shops, etc. Macon isn't bad at all, but when it comes to things to do for 21+, Columbus wins.
