I seen a decent amount in Miami Beach. Most cities have something similiar but they're normally ran by Arabs or Indians. Minneapolis has some ran by Somalis.
Yeah, I was going to say Miami Beach. I get dinner from my local one's grill a couple times a week.
Not in the US, but Montreal has a ton. They're just called "dépanneur."
These are all within just a few blocks of each other. They're all over the place.
Out here in CA we call them liquor stores or the store, could also be a smoke shop but mainly a liquor store that also have a deli and milk, cheese, flour, laundry, basic essentials that are in grocery stores but not necsarily accesible in areas that are food deserts.
Pretty obviously a strictly urban thing, where a "street corner" has a commercial establishment that people walk past. In cities of less than a million, you see that kind of thing only in the movies. I've never even the word in English speaking talk. didn't even know it was an English word. Just like everybody in New York, in their blissful ignorance, assume that people in Oshkosh shop at a delicatessen.
I've never heard the term "bodega" used in any context other than to describe a corner store/convenience store located in New York City. Incidentally, Waikiki, Honolulu has a whole ton of convenience stores that also sell souvenirs and beach gear and clothing. The store name is ABC Store, and that's what I've always heard them referred to as, rather than by a generic name.
DC, Chicago, Baltimore & Philly. Like someone else mentioned they are just called corner stores
