Final Tomato harvest of 2023.

Usually the plants start dying off in September and new blooms don't have time to produce. Green ones either crack or get eaten by birds especially if the weather is cooler and wetter than normal.

Short harvest season in CT (3mths)

But look what I see. Maybe the true last of the cukes

And this is my forecast... October weather in September. Normal is mid 70s.

Cambium, thanks again for a very fun-to-read and very informative thread. I look forward to next year's!

And my pellet insert guy did the yearly deep cleaning on Thursday. Today I cranked up the insert and the living room must now be 80 degrees, LOL! My kitties love it. It's a bit warm to me (ha!), but the stairs are right outside the living room so the upstairs, where I've been most of the day, gets a lot of heat too.

I love pellet heat -- love to use it SO MUCH MORE than oil, although I have probably 400 gallons of oil left in my tanks (I have 2 regular tanks) just in case. Since I'm only on bag #2 this season, I'm hoping for a very long fall and winter of pellet burning.

Happy fall to you & yours! And the squirrels! (Loved all the pictures you posted too!)

Thanks! So it's been in the 50s for like 4 days now and rainy. Feels like November out there

Guess what I got going for heat....

I only got 3 beefsteaks this summer the rest were green. Same with my neighbors. Cherries like mad - still coming. I got 5 green bell peppers and there were 5 more in progress but they had blossom end rot and that was late July so I pulled to out. Very wet June here and low heat for the most part.

I got over 19 inches of rain since June 1st. Over 5 inches this month. Been raining past 4days with temps in the 50s. Any remaining tomatoes are just cracking. It's pointless this late in the season to keep them going
Growing season is so short. I should be thinking about Fall crops but I just like to get ready for winter.

I got loads of radishes coming in now. Kale looks good too. Carrots sizing up. Bok choy and arugula look good too. But tomatoes are still going strong and ripening. We got wet weather in July and August, but June and September were dry, so we've had 15 inches since June 1st. Average for JJAS would be 14.3". No rain whatsoever in the 14 day forecast...

Ugh you can have some of mine. We’re just getting past TS Orphelia here and we had 3days of rain and we are locked in a drizzly pattern for the next week. Maybe a peek of sun tomorrow.

I don't have a particularly strong desire for rain tbh. This dry weather has been great for slowing down late blight, mildew and other fungal diseases that started to take hold in August.
