This time of year we plant Garlic to harvest Spring/Summer 2021..
How do I fill my raised beds? I don't buy soil.

Yesterday I noticed my raised bed was low (debris must be decomposing underneath).

So I moved the dirt............

Filled it with leaves... Ton of them around.

I put the dirt right back on top. Win Win

The Garlic will be planted in the entire bed where the Butterfly is.

My raised beds are ready. I may add some horse manure actually this week, not where the Garlic will go.

Brilliant!

Which reminds me, it's time for me to go plant my Russian garlic cloves into the ground.

I planted this kind this time. Huge cloves. Hope they grow ok.

I spaced them out more then I usually do. 31 in this little bed.

See y'all next year. Enjoy your winter...I know I will.

I can't believe it's March already! First, a quick update then my thoughts.....

So we had a perfect winter as far as personal preference and garden positives
We never had big or extended warm ups. It stayed chilly or cold most of winter and we had the snowiest February since 2014. (29")

Snow cover has been one of the longest on record being over 25 days here.

Snow cover is now "SLOWLY" disappearing and that's perfect for the soil. The soil never had a chance to dry out and crack with the cold. The snow insulated it and now the water is slowly melting down into it.

This was the scene on February 2nd. Garden bed is under there.

This was yesterday with the other bed. You can tell how moist the soil is. Perfect!

Now, my thoughts::::::::::::::::

I been seriously debating with myself doing a garden this year. Just want another break and to give the soil a break as well. Been gardening since 2003 and only took 2017 off.

It's such a hard debate because I enjoy gardening, I enjoy the taste of fresh grown veggies, I enjoy the smell of dirt in spring, I enjoy stepping outside and harvesting, and I enjoy documenting it. I sometimes look back at my threads and see what I went through that year.

I hate weeding, I been busy with work so don't have much time, squirrels are going to frustrate me again, and have so much to do around the house.

I think I'll be doing it again but the debate is real

Bonus Thoughts::

Spoiler
Scenes like this make me wish it was winter 10 months out of the year. I don't mind the seasons (except summer) but I love winter!

Love the winter scenes. Winter here left me wanting some snow. We had under 2 inches when you had had the first storm and we were supposed to have 8 inches. DH and I put the snow stakes all around the community for nothing. Your snow was our rain and we had a very rainy April til October, something like 53 inches, and it every time you had snow we had rain, I am so sick of rain.

Maybe you could do a garden but scale it down so you don't have so much work. I love to see your garden, it gives me garden envy.

Maybe you could give yourself a break from all the hard work this year and if you feel like getting your hands in the dirt just grow some flowering plants in pots instead of doing all the veggies.

Thanks all for the motivation... low and behold... I got in the mood...

Making some plans.... I am not going to do Potatoes this year even though they are easy to grow and fun to harvest and store for a while.. I'm going to plant Corn instead.

I wont be doing Pumpkins. not worth it just for decoration and for Squirrels to eat. lol.
