We are talking about COVID-19 related death and morbidity, not all causes of death. This is a thread about prioritization of the vaccine. Try and follow the conversation.

Many nations in the world, including China, have virtually eliminated the COVID-19 transmission and infections by using very effective public health measures and have no need for immediate, large and expensive vaccination programs.

Praising the Trump/Republican-inspired COVID-19 response, championed fully by DeSantis, is ignorance personified.

Where in the U.S. is there Bluetooth contact tracing underway?

<<To stave off the threat of another coronavirus outbreak over the summer months, the New Zealand government has introduced improved Bluetooth-powered contact tracing and pushed to maintain high levels of hand-washing. >>

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/12/31/w...-was-2019.html

Both Australia and New Zealand use mandatory hotel quarantines for anyone returning home and for non-native visitors.

<<After being released from two weeks’ mandatory hotel quarantine, Jack Murphy, 33, an advertising planner based in Dublin, spent the evening with friends from high school at a holiday home in Raglan.>>

Mandatory, government-supervised quarantines also are non-existent in the U.S.

<<In South Florida, the “connection rate” this summer reached a low of 17%, which meant that at least 80% of infected cases were not told to isolate and their contacts were not reached either, according to Miami Beach Mayor Dan Gelber.>>

oh that's great news....China and many nations in the world do not need to vaccinate ..because they have virtually eliminated the COVID-19 transmission and infections by using very effective public health measures
.......so we can have all of it and vaccinate more of our people....well, that really is great news

..and at the same time....China can stop spending all that time and money trying to develop the vaccines they are working on...it's a win/win!!

---------

BTW...China is doing so great....China just locked down another city....over 11 million people....total lockdown

As I said, China has very effective public health measures.

<<China restricted travel and closed schools in Shijiazhuang after only 100 cases of COVID-19 were uncovered.>>

Heck, DeSantis would have encouraged celebratory kissing booths to be opened throughout a city of 11 million if only 100 cases were discovered.

<<Travel has been restricted to a northern Chinese city of 11 million people and schools closed as authorities moved on Wednesday to snuff out a cluster of COVID-19 cases after more than 100 infections were confirmed.

Ten major highways leading into the city of Shijiazhuang, around 200 miles south of Beijing, have been closed and a bus terminus was closed in an attempt to prevent the virus spreading beyond the city in Hebei province. >>

In China they "snuff out" COVID-19 cases. In Florida, DeSantis enables them.

Do you really want to compare per capita cases and deaths in China with Florida??? PLEASE DO SO!!!

Honestly, have you ever been to China? I've been there. You can't compare a place where people have almost no personal freedom to anywhere in the USA. They are 2 opposite cultures. People disappear over there when they buck the state. American culture is based on individual freedom a d individual rights. It is one big reason we are struggling with Covid as a nation. It would be much easier in a totalitarian state than in a Republic such as ours.

Yet Taiwan, Japan, Australia, South Korea, and New Zealand arguably are better democracies these days then the U.S. and they also greatly contained the COVID-19 epidemic using superlative, science-based public health measures.

https://www.axios.com/taiwan-first-l...65edc0f17.html

<<On Tuesday, a contact of the pilot tested positive, ending Taiwan's 253-day streak without a local case.

Some public Christmas activities have since been suspended and the government has suggested people should stay at home during New Year's Eve.>>

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-55433588

Trump, DeSantis and other Republican enablers have turned the U.S. into a science-dumb nation full of individuals who deny individual responsibility for the public good.

Other nations recognize that contagious, novel viruses if unchecked can wreak incalculable damage on a nation's health and economy and vigorously respond to any outbreak.

As for China, I only was responding to Corrie22's belittlement of the Chinese COVID-19 response. As you can see from the Taiwanese response, any nation that wants to suppress a contagious virus must act aggressively. As in the past under a much better quality of leadership, the U.S. did with TB, polio, smallpox, and even AIDS.
