Moscow might be the ugliest major city in Europe. It's really irredeemably hideous.

A similar list about North American cities would include places like Youngstown, East St Louis, Detroit, Texas City, Camden or Sarnia.

I find big industrial complexes, including abandoned ones, fascinating.

My hometown can look a bit moscowish from above:

Among places listed above, I really enjoyed London, Berlin, Prague, Amsterdam, Barcelona and Hamburg. Vienna too, though it isn't listed. The one I want to visit the most is Madrid. I haven't been to either, but I would place St Petersburg above Moscow.

My three favorite European cities (so far) in order of preference are:

London
Berlin
Prague

London is so easy to get around in, and has SO much history. Also, I find the people to be very friendly, and I love the diversity and energy of the city. It may be my very favorite city in the entire world. Yes, I think it is!

Berlin is really cool, so funky and so WEIRD. It's also got tons of history that's fascinating. It comes in a close second, even though the people don't seem as approachable and friendly as those in London.

Prague is the wild card to me. I LOVE the architecture and art. The food is amazing (very different, with unusual influences). The city feels bohemian, and much more relaxed than either London or Berlin. Of course, it's also a much smaller city. It's the most picturesque of my three favorites.

I feel pure malevolence in your words. If for some reason you hate Russia then you can't be objective in your assessment regarding Moscow. I am pretty sure the vast majority of visitors will find Moscow splendid and wonderful.
