Cheers. What did you make of London? I think the English countryside is nicer. Most tourists only visit London though. It's understandable when you as a tourist don't know where to look for outside London. To a visitor London is easier as everything is at one place which makes it easier to get around.
London is okay, but I don't particularly like it. I've done most of the touristy things, except a few places I'd still like to see and to me it's just another big city. It's great for the theatre, ballet and plays etc. and Harrods is great (if money is no object) but I just find it too painful to go to London very often. If I have to go I will and then I'm thankful for the trains because if I had to drive in London......I would be very cranky.
I'd much rather drive to Kent, leave my car at the station and take the Eurostar to Paris.
I do like the English Countryside. It's almost always lush and green. And I love the quaint little villages full of old buildings with lots of character and narrow streets that only one car will fit down. The countryside is what people should see. 2 days in London would be enough IMO and then people should rent a car and go exploring, or hop on the train.....they go all over. Driving can be stressful in this country if you don't know where you're going and you're not used to driving on this side of the road, but it's the best way to experience this country, just get in the car and go. (Might want to have a map, a plan and a nav system wouldn't hurt either, lol!)
I only voted for 5 cities that I have actually visited - among the cities not included that should have been there (and which I rate highly among European cities) would be Salzburg, Dubrovnik (although Trogir is far more charming), and the city of Pecs in Hungary - they got the designation of European Capital of Culture for the Year 2010, and it is home to one of the oldest Universities in all of Europe (founded in 1367 and still going strong). They have more museums than you can shake a stick at, and great weather as well. Can you tell I'm excited about going back to visit next summer?
