It's not really a matter of "best." Different cities are interesting for different reasons. But if you only had a few days to visit, I'd bet that most people would find it the most interesting to visit the biggest cities first, since they have the greatest density of things to do and see. It's difficult to get any more specific than that without knowing about specific interests.

And americans wonder why hardly anyone likes them. Luckily there are a lot of nice americans on this thread. Being from UK id say Paris is the nicest European city. Barcelona and Prague are beautiful too.
