Thanks, everyone! I filled up all my large pots and pans with water today. Dont want to fight the crowds buying bottled water. Early tomorrow morning I'll move all the patio furniture up against the house. And I may turn my a/c down a lot -- so, in case the power goes off, at least the house will be cool longer. Rain is supposed to start around 10:00-11:00 AM tomorrow.
You can get ice and put it in your washer, when we had an extended outage here I lined my laundry tub, filled it w/ice for water, sodas, beer - LOL, etc.
Try to keep us posted as to how you are doing - I'll be worried.
Thanks again and dont worry, Flamingo. I'll try to give you regular updates, if only to say "glug glug" as the rain continues. My area (SW part of the city) is supposed to get most of the rain that falls in Houston but power outage, if it happens, is anticipated not to happen until Saturday night.
I'll try to take photos of the rising water and post them.
Well, the rain has started, although it wasnt supposed to start for another 3-4 hours. I tried to get Lulu to go out and potty but, like most dobermans, she's afraid she'll melt in the rain.
I decided to drive to the Walmart (a grocery store only) and get a few munchies for the next 4-5 days. I'd seen photos, in the news, of empty bread shelves and people in Houston fighting over bottled water and non-perishables in Houston stores. But there was none of that in the Walmart a few blocks away from me. Everyone, shoppers and clerks alike, was friendly and no one seemed to be in a rush. Yes, people were loading up on water and bread but the shelves werent empty and no one was fighting over foods. It was like any other day.
I passed several gas stations on the way home -- none had empty pumps or lines of people waiting to get gas. And I live in SW Houston, the area of Houston that's supposed to get the most rain.
Poor Lulu. She's been barking at me and then going to the back door. That means, of course, that she needs to go potty. When I open the door and she sees the rain, she decides that she doesnt have to go that badly after all. Then. 5 minutes later, she barks and goes to the back door again. Rinse and repeat. Eventually, she'll decide that melting in the rain isnt so bad.
Checking in guys. Especially you TFW. You seem to always get pounded, I know your a tough old bird but we still worry.
We too have buckets ( for flushing since we are on a well) and jugs of water. Turned on the fridge in the motor home just in case and can use the generator and move in if we have to. Thank goodness we are seasoned campers. That and a new bottle of gin... Brought in all my wind chimes and moved everything we could
Lost power for a while through the night but it's back on now. Waves of thunderstorms alternating with periods of lighter rain. A tornado damaged/destroyed about 50 houses in a subdivision close to me but my area is ok.
This is a very-slow-moving storm. It's expected to go back into the gulf and make landfall again near Houston next week. Looks like we'll have another 4-5 days of rain. No flooding on my street yet.
