The snow is really pissing me off. The first couple days of no school was awesome, but now it's starting to get boring.

NASA Captures a stronger LaNina. I think it was the strongest on record. But we finally peaked last month..

La Niña

The current state of this season's La Niña is shown in this Ocean Surface Topography Mission (OSTM)/Jason-2 satellite image of the Pacific Ocean, based on the average of 10 days of data centered on Dec. 26, 2010. The new image depicts places where the Pacific sea-surface height is higher (warmer) than normal as yellow and red, while places where the sea surface is lower (cooler) than normal are shown in blue and purple. Green indicates near-normal conditions. Sea-surface height is an indicator of how much of the sun's heat is stored in the upper ocean. The La Niña cool waters stretch from the eastern to the central Pacific Ocean.
"This La Niña has strengthened for the past seven months, and is one of the most intense events of the past half century ," said Climatologist Bill Patzert of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena, Calif. "It is already impacting weather and climate around the planet."

My My My...too close for comfort..I will keep my word if we see snow tomorrow that I wont post for 2 weeks. Judging by the way the moisture is moving you would think we're in direct path of it... but it should slide south of us... Most of the blues(snow) in Jersey now is virga.

an area of light snow will move from southwest to northeast

system, we could see snow flurries from 10 pm into the early
morning hours. The entire area will move off to the east by
daybreak.

Next up...Feb. 19......Feb. 21....Feb. 25... Dont even fret yet, still way long in future... Only 1 model in the world goes that far out. lol ... That one model on 1 run has 10 inches of snow on the 21st... another run of that model has rain....another run has nothing.... So no point in even talking about it.

Temps will be crucial at this point because of the fluctuations, it will have to be perfect timing to get snows.

If I see something still around for those dates by end of the weekend, I'll let you know.

February 9, 1969....A crippling snowstorm virtually paralyzed the Northeast with a foot-and-a-half of snow and wind-driven drifts up to six feet. Over 1,100 motoroists stranded in Fairfield County on Interstate 95. The travelers slept on top of phone booths, snack bar counters, in rest rooms, and on the floors of four ...restaurants in Fairfield and Darien during the storm.

That storm actually was given a historic name, the "Lindsay storm", because like the Dec. 26-27 storm this year, NYC was very unprepared and the mayor (John Lindsay) got a ton of flack, etc. I was a toddler then so I don't remember it....

Thanks for showing the Connecticut effect/perspective.

I've been trying without success to find out how much snow we've gotten so far this winter. Isn't the snowfall total in Danbury over 100"?

Try this...Click on each storm and find the total for your town and add it up... Should be easy this year since they all happened in just 4 weeks. lol

Recent Snowstorms

WeatherUnderground shows

2.28" in January
4.93" in December.

But thats hard to tell because that includes mixed precip and rain.

I'm seeing some reports showing 50s in NYC from Wed on (possibly 60 by Friday), so I assume by end of week at least 50 even in the more northern/inland parts of CT. I bet traffic on this thread starts to really drop with the snow out of the picture for now.....
