We are a good 2 weeks ahead here as well. The lawn is about 70% green now, many of the flowers have opened, my bamboo is dropping some yellow leaves (normally a sign the ground is getting much warmer) and the buds on the trees are really swelling. No doubt we are well into a very early spring on the upper East Coast.

As far as the weather pattern – the pattern we have been in continues for another few days. So expect the typical rainy/weather in the PNW, the upper level low inches accross the mainland, the jet stays up in Canada, and the Bermuda High pumps May like warmth into the East Coast. By this weekend a chance of showers and modestly cooler weather will work through the Tri-State area. By next week, drier weather, sunshine, and more seasonable temps from the low/mid 50’s F (Mon, Tue) warming some to near 60 F by mid week will be the rule. There looks to be no large organized areas of rain/storms and no below normal temps for the next 10 days or so (after the spotty showers this weekend). So spring 2012 seems on track for nice weather in the next two weeks at this point.

One other interesting note:

Some of the recent records for high temps broken this week dated back to spring 1938; many of you remember that was the year the most intense tropical cyclone to ever hit the North Atlantic coast made landfall (946 mb/27.94 in/sustained winds 115-MPH). Hopefully, this is not an sign of what might come six months from now.

The map is a little funky but somewhat cool.

State-by-State Look at How Early Spring Has Arrived

In the interactive below, you can see how much earlier spring has arrived state-by-state, measured by the date of first leaf. As you hover over any state, it'll display two boxes: a gray box that represents the day spring used to arrive (based on the 1951-1980 average) and a colored box that represents how much earlier spring has arrived (based on the 1981-2010 average).

Nope. Some Rain Saturday afternoon to Sunday Morning. Some rain again around the 29th. I wouldnt be surprised to see some dandruff falling at end of month with a backdoor cold front or a clipper or a cold front. Models still all over the place and its tough during the winter let along April to know for sure.

A cool summer is better than a cold winter!

Dont jump the gun on plants yet. I see a trough setting up after the end of month with warm days being quick to exit.

And why oh why does it do this to us?

Latest GFS has a BOMB for April 2nd (I know, I know, the date pushed back again. ) which would be all snow. But its not just this frame you see...Its like 24hrs worth. Widespread 12-15" of snow. LMAO! Blah Blah Blah.

Here's a quick animation of that run I found.
First with Leaves/Last With Buds? Can it happen?

Watch this thing stall. Poor MA and NH get 16-20" from this run.
