NWS says it was 9 degrees at the ball drop in Times Square! History has been made (it means low for both NYE and NYD in NYC is in the single numbers)! Happy New Year all! Stay warm and safe and best wishes for a great, happy and healthy 2018

Too early tell. Hearing 3-6 or 6-12. All depends on the track which is iffy. Think this is going to catch a lot of people by surprise who weren't paying attention to this storm and are only worried about New Years cold.

We need it to track east, like it was starting to do, but then began coming back this way, something that is emerging as a trend this year so far.

Otherwise...before this storm, a moderation in temps to about 10
degrees below seasonable expected Wednesday ahead of developing
polar trough. After the storm, the hazard once again becomes
the arctic cold. In fact, this could be the coldest air thus
far, with signal for 850 temps of -25 to -30c into the region
for Friday into the weekend. This would likely have temps
struggling to get out of the single digits to lower teens
Fri/Sat, with widespread wind chills of
-10 to -20 degrees early Fri and Sat mornings.
