Amazing the sun couldn't melt the stuff with temps in the 20s and low 30s but as soon as its 40s and 50s BOOM. Melting. Still white everywhere though which is amazing given the sun is the same angle as September 21st!

I'm thinking its more rain than anything for CT but we're still 6 days away. Northwards would be snow and ice threats. maybe ice for Northern CT if cold air at the surface hangs on.

If things trend south more than we'll have to watch across CT. I think it's

Ridiculous. One quick shot this week. Wont last long and might be the last one.

Imagine if Bridgeport got 10" of snow instead of 7" on the 14th??? Would of shattered record long deep snowpack for March. We missed it by inches! Literally. If it didn't change over. If the track was 25miles East more. Given the record cold week we just had Bridgeport would of had record consecutive 5"+ snowpack for March

Hartford forecast by NWS. Struggling past 30s again. Wont feel like end of March for sure!

2nd most consecutive number of days with 5"+ on ground after March 1st at CT the coast.. Only 1 other yr did.

7th most days 3"+ on ground for NYC. Only 6 other years had more days since 1912.

BOOM again.

After March 13th there was only 1 yr that had more days in a row with 3"+ on ground in NYC.
2017 2nd most. IMPRESSIVE

How far back does that go? I find it hard to believe 1888 isn't on that list for Central Park...

Date is on there.

Also.. Binghamton.. 3rd most consecutive days this late with 12"+ on ground. And not many yrs (since 1952) with 12"+ snow depth days this late.

Impressive mid March in Northeast this year. Reminds me of Feb 2015 in a sense

1st paragraph says sun angle means nothing for temps when mid level temps are frigid. January temps coming Wed/Thurs

2nd paragraph says backdoor front sinks south bring in the cold air while a storm comes from Ohio valley.

I hope its not ice we will have to deal with!!

Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service New York NY
723 PM EDT Mon Mar 20 2017.

Canadian high pressure builds over region Wed/Thu which will result
in below average temperatures. Despite March sunshine, highs should
only reach 30s both days.
Lows Wed night should range from teens
inland to low 20s near coast. Should also be rather brisk which will
send wind chills into single numbers at times, or even below zero
inland.

Temperatures begin to modify Fri as high moves offshore and SW flow
gets underway. Then our attention turns to a backdoor front, which
should drop south through area Saturday night or Sunday morning, as
strong high pressure builds across Hudson Bay. We then need to keep
an eye on low pressure emerging from Ohio Valley, which may end up
bringing some precipitation to area Sun-Mon or keeps everything
suppressed to our south. Too much uncertainty this far out to say
which solution is more favored at this time.

Yeah I see it now, my bad, thanks!

NWS noted that even in NYC the Sat-Mon system may actually have * SNOW * mixed in toward the end of it late Sunday and Monday (not Saturday when it is supposed to be near 60).

Before we get into this weekends chaos... Take a look...

Top 30 most above normal snowfall locations for NWS U.S Climo sites only.

Binghamton in the lead almost 5 feet above norm!

Hartford 12th most with 60.8" of snow for the season. 23.7" above normal! More above normal than Caribou.

Bridgeport 40.9" of snow for the season is 15.6" above normal which is 28th most of all U.S sites.

Scranton on there as well.

Wanna see the bottom 30? Some Interesting locations.

2.5" still on ground. Getting tired of waking up seeing snow. Its almost end of March now!

Big hit yesterday with temps reaching 53°! Sun couldn't do it, warm temps did. Lost 2"

Want a close up of what the snowpack is made out of? Here. This is why it's hard to melt down. Mostly ice crystals, not snowflakes. Snow melts in sun much faster.

I had to use 2.65" of warm water to melt it down. Subtracted the total and came to 0.83" sitting on the ground. (down from 1.50" yesterday morning)

Other than possible ICE, which is never good, I don't see what the big deal is for this weekend.

Rain mostly then chance of snow? Big deal. It's not a snowstorm. No cold air in place, its catching up to the moisture.

The temps today are amazing!!!! Finally able to get outside and run. Snow banks are melting and maybe 3 to 4 inches of snow left on the grass. Some areas the grass is showing. Shorts and jacket weather today!
