It was horrendous driving!

About 5 inches of snow in Waterbury area, roads unplowed. Cars sliding and becoming stuck.

I84 plows can't keep up not even plowed about inch or 2 of snow on the highway.

Route 8 was a nightmare. DOT did start to plow Northbound lanes. Around Seymour started to become a mix of snow and sleet.

DOT trucks started to sand around Shelton area, wasn't terrible.

Then became terrible. No lanes. Snow covering the roads and mixed with sleet/freezing rain. It was insane!

Them Bridgeport was a mix with slush, snow, and slush/some covered roads. Going up a hill sideways.

Worried about drive home tonight if feeling rain going to make it worse.

The wife has to leave for Newtown, but seems mostly snow going I84 west.

No more snow here. Changed to sleet at 1pm for 1 hour.

Now it looks like rain falling but the air temp is 31° so it's actually freezing rain. Shovel handle has thin layer of ice now.

3" total of snow and sleet

2pm temps and radar. Summer in Virginia. Winter in NYC. Sunny and 80s in VA. Low 30s in NYC.

Actually raining on Long Island and in NYC and Ice now Bridgeport and Danbury.

Last 4 hours. 10:15am-2:15pm. Watch Long Island change to rain and BDR and Danbury change to ice.

Looking at the map - OMG! And I really do mean OMG!

How is it possible to have 20s and 30s in the Northeast and 80s in Virginia!?!?!?

I wonder if those 80s are records for the date if not the month of February....I looked at a couple of daily climate reports for Richmond and Norfolk and found record highs in the upper 70s to around 80.

Impressive right? I'm wondering what it's like to have 80s with no leaves on the trees. It's rare to experience that here.

And Since you asked... Current Surface Map

High Pressures spin clockwise, right?

So you got that Cold Eastern Canadian High pushing cold air down to New England. It's cold at the mid levels (5000'). Its cloudy. It's snowing so you got the cold NYC northward.

Then you got the front sitting over Mid Atlantic.

Then You got the High pressure over the Atlantic off the South East coast, you got Sunny skies in Virginia and very warm mid level temps which makes it 80s in VA and NC.

My sister in Virginia Beach/Norfolk says it's 80 down there. I've been there in January when it was 70, no leaves on the trees, but there are a few flowers. Pansies in bloom. It felt GREAT.

Scared up here on the MA/NH border coastline. Snowed all day yesterday, snowing today, still one foot of snow from a few days ago. I know there will be power failures.

edited: They are complaining that pollen is all over their cars. They are taking pictures of daffodils today.

Looks like convection firing up like its summer over Virginia. Crazy. Dew points in the dry 40s so not expecting anything bad.

And yeah, Hartford reporting Ice now so the changeover is happening. But not sure it will rain just yet. Will take a little more time
