Look how long it took them to get Front Street off the ground. People made fun of that for years. Now, it's a great addition to the city and when UConn comes on line it will be a pretty hopping place.

Nobody b#$tches about Front Street any more. There's the science center, convention center, movie theaters, infinity music, lots of good restaurants and bars, apartments and UConn coming. It just took ten years.

My prediction is that in a summer or two, the ball park will be very successsful and the rest of the neighborhood will be going through a transition. And the doomsayers will have moved on.
Imagine a Yard Goats game, Wolf Pack game, and an event at the Connecticut Convention Center at the same time while UCONN students walking around downtown to get a bite to eat. I've noticed foot traffic has gotten ALOT busier within the past 5-10 years and I expect it to get even busier.

Good point on Front Street, although the real game changer there is UConn. The rest of it is nice, but it won't fundamentally change the area the way UConn will. And to think that the city did not want UConn to relocate to Front Street in the first place.

I don't know that I agree with you on this. The Infinity Theater and the Spotlight Movie Theaters are great additions to downtown and bring a lot of suburbanites in that previously would have stayed in the suburbs. I know that we now check the Spotlight movies and times when we want to go to a movie and will go there, especially if we want to eat something first or after the show. UConn certainly will add to that but there is already a big difference there. Too bad it took so long.

Hartford officials had originally wanted UConn to build their campus in NoDo. This was before Dunkin Donuts Stadium was proposed. They felt this would help jump start development in that area. It is likely a good thing that UConn did not do that since if they had the baseball stadium may not have been possible. Hindsight is always easy but in the end this looks to be a good decision for the school and the city. Hopefully it will open on time and without problems like the stadium is having. Jay

Those teams. Can count the Brooklyn Cyclones and Pawtucket Red Socks. As well as Husky and CT Blue Devils Baseball.

Not surprised. This will go on for a LONG time and cost taxpayers a lot of money. Jay

Well, that's what our capitol city does best: Drain the public of funds through corrupt wheelings and dealings.

Sad, sad. Things didn't really get better after Eddie "remodeler" Perez. Hope Bronin cuts through this and changes the culture.

Sorry but Perez was the worst mayors Hartford has had in recent years. He managed to undo a lot of the good that Mayor Mike Peters did during his terms as Mayor. While Perez was in office several major companies moved out of Hartford including Voya and WFSB. Voya would have been a great addition to downtown but now it is out in a suburban office complex in the Day Hill Road area in Windsor. WFSB was set to build a new studio complex in NoDo. They would have been a great linchpin for development there but Perez did nothing when they decided to leave for Rocky Hill. And I am pretty sure Perez also decided he did not like the developer of Front Street that was selected so he dropped them and brought his own developer in, thus delaying this very important project and certainly reduced its size and scope. He set that project and the city back a good decade or more. Jay
