It's going to be a Candlewood Suites.

It's a pretty small hotel, around 80 rooms. And it is a low priced hotel near downtown. Likely it will complete with the Red Roof Inn on Asylum but not the amenity lauded places like the Marriott or Hilton.

That's fine.

Candlewood Suites is an extended stay hotel chain. Competition would be places like Extended Stay America and Marriott Residence Inn.

I'm so glad they got that big, beautiful Dunkin sign and cup up before they ran out of money.

The crazy thing is that it wasn't even apart of the original plan. They just added it in as they went. I will admit that it is cool though because whenever the Yard Goats hit a home run, the coffee cup steams and has smoke coming off the top of the lid. Pretty cool addition. Citi Field has a big red apple, Minute Maid Park has a train, Fenway Park has a mammoth green wall, and we have a coffee cup . We're original like that I guess .

The whole ball park thing is a black eye but not very meaningful.

Look how long it took them to get Front Street off the ground. People made fun of that for years. Now, it's a great addition to the city and when UConn comes on line it will be a pretty hopping place.

Nobody b#$tches about Front Street any more. There's the science center, convention center, movie theaters, infinity music, lots of good restaurants and bars, apartments and UConn coming. It just took ten years.

My prediction is that in a summer or two, the ball park will be very successsful and the rest of the neighborhood will be going through a transition. And the doomsayers will have moved on.

My only grip with the park is it's 30 minutes away from one baseball team, an hour from 3 to 4 other baseball teams, and at least 2 hour's from 2 MLB teams.

3 MLB parks, depending on traffic. CT Fastrak has a shuttle bus from downtown New Britain to select New Britain Bees games. Trying to think of what other teams you mean besides the Connecticut Tigers (A-level Tigers affiliate) in Norwich and the Bridgeport Bluefish of the Atlantic League.
