Higher angle, Solar Rays. Like getting Laser beamed and heated up while the air around you is ice cold. lol

Yeah, Ontario deeper and rarely gets as frozen as the others. 53% has ice on it right now. 4th highest for this time period. Great site for GL Ice. Click on Ice Cover Forecasting.

Here's the Euro12z to compare. Same location, same run time.

Notice with the precip there's warmer temps. Although it did cool it down from yesterdays run. I wonder if its because of the new 12z data that went into it this morning.

Remember, the precip is for the previous 6hrs. So the .09" Sat March 14th comes when temps are below freezing. So even now the Euro showing it starts as snow and changes to rain.

Wednesday looks the warmest day next 10 days

Lets see... next weekend Euro trends cooler and shows snow to start then rain
Canadian shows light snow

GFS now 4 runs in a row showing a snow event.

Here's a 48hr snowfall total. First you can see that the highest totals are for interior which would be more common this time of year... but as we know... weather does what it wants and it still shows 6-12" of snow in CT here.

The difference in the DC totals is not that unusual.....they are about 30 miles apart ans the difference in their nighttime lows and average snowfalls is like NYC vs. Westchester Airport or Danbury. Dulles has strong radiational cooling while Reagan National has full UHI effects. Its not too rare for it to rain or at least for snow to not be sticking at Reagan while its full sticking snow at Dulles.

I always hate when they use Dulles for Washington DC climate because (pun intended) its not an accurate barometer or it, it wpuld be like using White Plains or even Danbury for NYC climate.

Concord vs. Binghamton isnt a vast comparison as Concord only gets a little less snow on average (I believe its about 65" per year for Concord vs. about 80" per year for Binghamton. Binghamton's a little too far from the Lakes to average 100+ inches per year like Syracuse 70 miles away.

But one more comparison:

NY City 42.5", Anchorage AK 20.7"

Speaking of Anchorage, they've been the "flip side" of us, an incredible record warm and relatively snowless Jan. and Feb. in comparison to our record cold and snowy one. But it looks like that's about to change for them (at least the cold part, although the "rain/snow" in the forecast has a Winter Weather Advisory for 4-9 inches):

Only about a foot.....those big totals actually occurred only in their southern suburbs right on Lake Erie....there was a huge gradiant where a few miles meant a few FEET of difference in snow totals......my sister lives north of the city and she actually only got about 8-10" then.
