^^^ Looks like that's a complete band! There's always a delay in the radar around that area. Great coverage btw

That band fell apart as I was in Ridgefield. It semi redeveloped around Danbury.

You can see it on radar vanish, a picture I took of the clouds, (I had couple flurries) and the sounding below showing there is too much dry layers in there and the clouds were thin (not enough moisture)

Sunday December 29, 2013 Storm Update

We have ourselves a coastal storm. Imagine that... Temps 33-38 degrees and heavy rain...at night. Ouch. Worst kind of rain.

Slight shift in track and some might end in ice or snow.

The setup does not favor a snowstorm with this one. Timing doesn't allow cold air to come in.

I'm Thinking 3/4 to 2" of rain and north of Merrit end as snow.

GFS is slower starting Sunday around Lunchtime, Euro starts Saturday night. Both ending by Monday morning.

Where's the rain/snow line on this one cam? How far northwest into ma before it's all snow?

Yeah, could be a big snowstorm for north of I-90 which is my thinking but even the GFS showing 4-9" for central and northern CT.

Just to give you an idea... Here's the data from the latest GFS. BDL on top, Westfield, MA on bottom (near I-90)

Notice BDL cold air comes after the bulk precip but its near or above freezing during the precip.
Then notice Westfield near I-90 below freezing more.

Look at the snow totals from that update. That's a healthy 10-18" in New England.

Forget the coastal, forget the possible snow Sunday...

Question is...... Are we all ready for this if it happens???

Latest GFS12z for Danbury, CT.

That's 3 to 12°F degrees from 7pm next Wednesday to 7pm Saturday. Meaning, it doesn't get past teens for 3 days and lows in single digits which means if there's wind there's sub zero real feel temps.

This can change but we've been talking about the Cold coming with force for a week now.

Default Personal weather stations

I'd like recommendations for a backyard weather station.
Preferably <$100.
Preferably something I can check on the iphone.
I like to see graphs of temperature over days, like I can get from weather underground.

I found Netatmo Weather station on Amazon, but it is $179. Any similar products on the market?

Thanks,
Dan

I used to use this one. Does the job ok and you can get the graphs, and history data and stuff. Comes with the wireless console. Will have to adjust your conditions as with any station if its too off. Reads barometer, temp, rain amount, wind speed and direction.

ProWeatherStation Professional Data Logging Weather Station

But I recommend using the Free Cumulus software with it. You get a nice layout, more graph options, and it keeps track of your history using NOAA's format like this...

Sandaysoft

As far as checking with the phone, I think you have to upload the data onto the net first like Weather Underground allows you to and you can check with the internet on your phone using the link to your station.

Maybe others have other recommendations, experience, and knowledge on all this.

There's no definite, specific storm I'm tracking at the moment, but the potential exists for a storm to develop and affect the Eastern or Central US. The early January time frame could support a significant storm for sure, but as of now, it's a "wait and see what happens" type of thing. It's hard to say even if models were to pick a storm up this far out.

Here's to the GFS Long Range model 10 days out (f252)(Jan 4th timeframe):

meteo.psu.edu

Looks like it's pretty active and there's even a low in the Midwest. The only thing the GFS can really tell us, though, is that there's potential. And that map is guaranteed to change.
