Just sat down. No idea what the latest is or whats going on anywhere. I personally don't see "significant" ice for CT but there will be a couple hours of it overnight Sunday. We will not be getting what the folks down south are getting. They are losing power from the weight of the ice.

I think we all go to rain by 9am Monday. But please don't use this post to make your plans. I hope you have a local forecast channel or radio or something to stay on top of this. My schedule unfortunetly got hectic at a bad time.

Rain Friday
Snow Friday night.
Snow Sunday evening.
Snow/Sleet/Ice/ Sunday night
Rain Monday morning

A winter potpourri.

Tuesday December 17th next storm to watch for.

Euro00z Data for Danbury.

Less qpf for Sun/Mon but more colder qpf for Saturday morning.

Also note the 18° by 7pm Thurs.

The boxed numbers on the right is the amount of liquid to fall based on latest Euro. The blue would be snow. If over 1/2" of liquid falls as snow that would be 3-5".

I think we get at least 1/4" to fall as snow which would mean 2-4"

A white landscape coming up for many of us.. then some gets washed away Monday. Keep in mind one thing... The more snow that falls west of us the colder the temps will stay which means more frozen stuff.

These discussions are for Saturday morning.

NWS Upton:

MINOR SNOW ACCUMS THOUGH ARE EXPECTED ACROSS THE INTERIOR BY SAT
MORNING. ORANGE COUNTY COULD SEE AN INCH OR TWO OF SNOW...ALONG WITH
SOME SLEET ACCUM.

NWS Boston: Figure they are saying 1-3" south of the Mass Trnpke

SNOWFALL TRICKY AS MAX QPF WILL BE SOUTH OF THE COLDER AIR.
CURRENT THINKING IS AN AREA OF 2-4" ACCUM NORTH OF THE MASS PIKE
AND WEST OF I495 WITH LOCALLY 5-6" POSSIBLE IN THE BERKSHIRES.

NWS Albany:

A WINTER STORM WATCH HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR THE CATSKILLS...SOUTHERN
TACONICS...LITCHFIELD HILLS AND BERKSHIRES FOR LATE THIS AFTERNOON
THROUGH TONIGHT. THE POTENTIAL IS THERE FOR 7 INCHES OR MORE OF
SNOWFALL IN THESE AREAS. THE WATCH WILL START AT 600 PM THIS EVENING
AND GO THROUGH 8AM SATURDAY.

Work load lightens up after today so I can focus on these storms.

Temps dropping across the state as cold front pushed through. Danbury already down to 42. Here in New Canaan its 45

Wet roads will mean black ice tonight after temps drop below 32.

Should be interesting to see the changeover of precip

So far it looks like we get lucky in southern/coastal Connecticut, Long Island, and most of NJ. They expect the snow to stay north of us. There is some snow expected up in the NW Hills of CT and the higher elevation of NW NJ (Orange County). Furthur south in looks like a mix of sleet and just rain. Hope this forecast holds.

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NEW YORK NY
950 AM EST FRI DEC 6 2013

TEMPS FALLING IN THE COLD ADVECTION.

&&

.SHORT TERM /6 PM THIS EVENING THROUGH 6 PM SATURDAY/...

CURRENTLY EVALUATING NEEDS FOR WINTER WX ADVISORY FOR ORANGE AND
PUTNAM COUNTIES. HOPE TO HAVE A DECISION BY 11 AM.

UPPER SW FLOW PREVAILS THIS TIME FRAME. COLD FRONT SAGS
FURTHER SOUTH IN TIME...AS RIDGE OF HIGH PRESSURE BUILDS FROM THE
WEST.

FOR TONIGHT...COLDER AIR CONTINUES TO FILTER IN FROM THE NORTH.
RAIN WILL BECOME WIDESPREAD OVER THE AREA...TO THE NORTH OF THE
WAVE OF LOW PRESSURE. A TRANSITION FROM RAIN TO SNOW/SLEET WILL
OCCUR FROM NORTH TO SOUTH AS THE NIGHT PROGRESSES.

AT THIS TIME...ANALYSIS OF MODEL SOUNDINGS AND LOW LEVEL
THICKNESS PROFILES WOULD SUGGEST RAIN AND SLEET IN THE EVENING
OVER THE NW ZONES WILL TRANSITION TO SNOW/SLEET IN TIME. MAINLY
RAIN NEAR THE COAST TONIGHT
...WITH PERHAPS SOME SLEET MIXING IN
FROM TIME TO TIME...ESPECIALLY AFTER MIDNIGHT.

MINOR SNOW ACCUMS THOUGH ARE EXPECTED ACROSS THE INTERIOR BY SAT
MORNING. ORANGE COUNTY COULD SEE AN INCH OR TWO OF SNOW...ALONG WITH
SOME SLEET ACCUM.

CLOUDS IN THE MORNING GIVE WAY TO AFTERNOON SUNSHINE.
CHILLY TEMPS RANGING FROM AROUND 30 INLAND TO THE MIDDLE 30S NEAR
THE COAST LATE TONIGHT ARE ANTICIPATED. THEN TEMPS RISE TO THE UPPER
30S TO LOWER 40S SATURDAY...WHICH IS SLIGHTLY BELOW NORMAL. A
MET/MAV MOS BLEND FOLLOWED.

Temps still in the 40s and I think DOT has the heads up on all this so they treated the roads. 5:30 is fine but as always heads up and look at the outside temp where you are.

The liquid treatment they use on the roads allows temps down to 27 degrees without icing up.

Might be over by then, but should be dicey out there. Go slow and check your local stations to see who's reporting what from where and road conditions.

Current temps and radar. Still a while for the changeover for us. (after midnight)
