These numbers are actually close to the morning lows. Looks like more than 10 above normal for the low.

Enjoy the warmth, feels like a Spring morning out there.

Nearing 70 F here on the coast right now. Humidity seems up on the south winds.

One interesting note for those of you who are beach goers…SST around Long Island Sound and the south shore of Long Island/Rhode Island have now without doubt fallen to 65 F (18 C)....that''s just too cold for anyone. My depth meter recorded a SST of 65.9 F off Newport, RI yesterday and the current reports off the CT coast are now all below 66 F.

So the beach season in the Tri-State/upper Middle Atlantic is now really over - at least for going into the water. It looks like if you want those 70 F/21 C + SST you have to head to VA Beach and southward:

The Beach and Crop season.

This is the last of the harvest. All plants are pulled now except the Fig & lemon tree of course. Any figs left on the tree are pretty much worthless now after that 28 degree temp we got.

Eggplants and Peppers are all that was left.

Its ashame because this warm weather should last another 2 weeks. Amazing how 1 hard freeze can kill crops, huh.

As far as the models can see. Meaning I see this last for a couple weeks at least, with a couple of quick temporary cool shots like tomorrow night but not lasting. Say hello to 20 straight months above normal at BDR and most locations.

Mid 70s very likely. next week.

What is the cause of the blowtorch relative to average this time?

Actually, I just checked the montly averages and Concord, NH was below average for September. That broke the streak there...

Well, I wouldnt call it blowtorch unless its consistantly upper 70s or hits 80s. I'm not sure why scientifically but for some reason the Ridge in the West shifted east and the troughs are entering the west now. The buckle in the Jet kinda shifted around the Earth. So places that were warm now should be cool.

Whats funny is the NAO is still Negative, but the PNA is negative too.

Dont get me wrong.. we'll still see cold shots, but they will be in and out quick. Things should change after the 25th.

This is the 850mb temp anomalies. Greens indicate above normal temps at 5000'. That will lead to normal and above normal temps at the surface.

I also want to point out Canada. Notice the green across the country... The cold polar air is choked off. It cant bleed down into the Eastern U.S.

Here on the coast of Connecticut...NWS Bridgeport was below average a few days ago, which would have finally broken the 19 month streak. Yet, after highs in the 70's yesterday the monthly mean temp has gone back above normal (and still no frost at NWS Bridgeport). The rest of October looks rather warm and mild with no cold air making down to the East Coast. So my guess is NWS Bridgeport will end Oct 2012 above normal:

As far as why the blowtorch again this fall (no real lasting cool weather), IMO I think it is the same issues as last year. The cold air just can't get down into the states and the jet keeps wanting to veer northward. As we cross into November, if this pattern stays the same, I would think November will be much the same.
