I honestly think it having the warning over the rest of the state has more to do with it being part of a different NWS office (Albany) and them somehow being a bit more concerned in general about the wind vs. the other two offices that cover CT (NYC and Boston)

Also, if you look at the path of the storm, Western CT more likely to get the high gusts than Eastern CT just because of how the storm is moving (South to North) and how the right rear of the Jet is setup.

Also Notice where the bulk of the precip is...over PA. It looks to me like it shifted West a bit. There should have been more rain over CT by now. It's like we live under a bubble. LOL

It does appear to moving more south to north with little west/east movement. Of course, that could all change very quickly!

...HIGH WIND WATCH IN EFFECT FROM TUESDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH LATE
TUESDAY NIGHT...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN UPTON HAS ISSUED A HIGH WIND
WATCH...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM TUESDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH LATE
TUESDAY NIGHT.

* HAZARDS...HIGH WINDS.

* WINDS...SOUTH 15 TO 25 MPH WITH GUSTS BETWEEN 50 AND 60 MPH
POSSIBLE.

Thanks Cambium for the heads up!

Winds that strong at 5000' usually aren't an issue, as long as I'm not flying over rugged terrain. On 11/15/08 I flew with winds of 70 mph at 4000' (gusting to 32 mph on ground from the south)! That day from the ground to around 3000' there was moderate turb, but suddenly in at 3000' it was smooth as glass. I couldn't believe it could be such a nice ride with winds of 70 mph at 4000.

On 2 other occasions (11/13/09 and 12/12/10) the LLJ at 2000' was also in the 70 mph range. We had moderate turb all the way down as we flew the instrument landing system (ILS) to land. Both days surface winds were gusting to 35 mph.

It'll be a last minute go/no go decision about tonights flight. Things that will stop it would be another pilot report of severe turb or embedded t-storms that are too clustered to circumnavigate.

Bradley forecast is calling for gusts to 42 mph when we are suppose to takeoff, but it is closely aligned with the runway so little crosswind to deal with. In that case the hardest part is actually taxiing the plane!!

I'll give you a full report if we go!!

But given the widespread nature of it, I'd still think at least one other part of CT would get a warning. I'm thinking that yes, it's more of a threat in the Albany NWS office area than OKX or BOX and Litchfield just happens to be part of it. I've seen it sometimes where much of the NJ portion of the tri-state area gets warnings yet NYC doesn't (or vice versa) because about 70-80% of the NJ suburbs are the Philly office. For example, warning almost up to Staten Island and Newark Airport but not actually there because of it.

Winds starting to ramp up now gusting to 30mph. Cold front still over Ohio Valley so the peak of our weather will be tonight. We'll get some heavy rains and stronger winds.

Winds at the 5000' level are moving North ahead of the front and East behind the front. That could help some Tornados spawn off but I think they stay south of CT.

This video might help understand why Litchfield has the Warning for wind and just watches elsewhere. it's about where the vort sets up plus higher elevation. Winds are over 80mph at 5000 feet "SUSTAINED" so Litchfield could easily see 60mph gusts.

Note the warmer thinking to the rest of the month by Paul P.
