There is no question that USC has a major say in what happens within a few miles of their campus. It is not Pres of USC speaking directly to the Mayor nor to city council. It is more behind the scenes with good old boys scratching each others back It is their and if you do not think so, time to get your head out of the sand......or out of wherever.
Also need to remember the developer is seeking a legal argument stating it pass all the other zoning requirements etc and the probably have a case based off of other similar developments being allowed to happen. They can’t be discriminated against when others are allowed to do the same In proximities around campus in other areas.
This will probably still go forward after some litigation on their part.

So the Columbia Design/Development Review Commission has rejected the Gervais Street Student Housing. They asked if the developers could reduce the size/height of the project and the developers said they have done all they could. Also, the Edge developers requested certificate of design approval and site plan approval and they were referred to a subcommittee.
