...WINTER NOT DONE WITH US YET...

Today will bring warm temperatures to the region and some showers
and thunderstorms to the high country. We can also expect some
gusty winds of 20 to 30 mph, possibly higher at times, as the
surface pressure gradient tightens. However, a drastic change to
the weather will occur as a low to our west moves through eastern
Utah and western Colorado Monday morning through late Tuesday
night. Temperatures across the region will drop about 20 degrees
below normal for this time of year and with such cold temperatures
expected, some accumulating snowfall is possible over the
mountains Monday night through Tuesday morning. Mountain passes
will likely become snow covered with elevations above 9K feet
possibly seeing several inches of new snow. Those individuals
travelling Memorial Day should pay attention to the latest
forecasts to determine if their travel will be impacted by this
spring storm. As always, minor deviations in the forecast can
cause changes in snowfall amounts and locations so please stay
up-to-date on the latest weather forecast.

Mark Lambert with the U.S. Forest Service said last week there was likely a significant amount of damage to trails, but crews have not yet been able to access the backcountry to assess the situation because the area remains covered in vast amounts of snow.

Snowpack in Southwest Colorado, as of Thursday, was at nearly 375% of normal, historic averages.
“We may have some real challenges out there,” Lambert said. “Some of those piles may be very high and very thick, and it may take time to clear.”

Louis Girodo, San Juan County road and bridge manager, posted to social media last week that County Road 2, the route up to Animas Forks, was covered in up to 100 feet of snow. As a result, he estimated Animas Forks wouldn’t be accessible until at least sometime in July.

I think there's a reasonable chance I don't ever see the map look like this again in my lifetime.

Never thought I'd use the phrase "mind boggling." Statewide, 409%, that 713% in the Southwest. . .
