We ended up with just under 10" so that forecast was good. We may not get the "big" spring snowstorm we usually get... but only Mother Nature knows for sure!

Have been watching the Weather Channel this morning. This might be the last snow of the season but Vail, Rabbit Ears, Berthoud Passes and the Eisenhower Tunnel are sure to get some snow this weekend, most likely Saturday. Maybe a foot-maybe more. and it will be 10-15 degrees cooler for the next several days. SW Colorado might dodge this, we'll see. The weather people are calling for up to two feet of snow in the Lake Tahoe area tonight.

Outside Silverton:

"One avalanche that covered County Road 2, the route to Eureka, buried the road in up to 40 feet of snow. Farther past Eureka toward Animas Forks, it was discovered this week that another avalanche dumped up to 120 feet of snow on the road"

A good friend of mine who lives on Florida Mesa, about ten miles south of Durango told me he was through there in late March and that a couple roads in and out of there were shut down due to avalanches. Those are county roads--San Juan County isn't exactly flush with unlimited funds regarding snow removal. Starting real soon imagine the look on some of the tourists faces when they get off the Silverton Durango train for lunch and look to see all the snow piled up!

Yesterday afternoon I was coming back from Montrose and saw the weirdest cloud formations I've seen in years. Wind blowing steady at 30-35 m.p.h. Looked like Armageddon.

Been watching the Weather Channel this afternoon and not surprisingly "Tornado Alley" will be the top story on the 5 o'clock network news. Been raining on and off in Fruita/Loma area--came down in buckets for 15 minutes. This morning the snow line was around 6500 ft. Telluride-been snowing all day today. Hopefully BrightDogLover will check in later and give the report on Ridgway. It's gonna be stormy pretty much all week.

Out running errands this afternoon when the rain turned to snow for a bit. It was snowing slush. Got home and covered the geraniums and brought in the tomato plant I hadn't yet planted. I don't think it's the latest I've seen it snow in my 25 years here but it's up there.

Rain spitting and raw cold in Ridgway today, some snow spatters. Nothing blooming yet except dandelions. I think there was a wind blast this afternoon- one of my young aspens is pretty crooked, and a container I had on the front steps blew across the yard. Very dreary. Nothing like this time last year, with the heat wave and drought! The reservoir at the state park is looking very healthy, and it's great to see the river running so well.

I got dandelions a few weeks ago. Noticed a few other wild flowers for the first time driving several days ago. Still have one tiny remnant of winter's snowpile icebergs. Light flurries today.

Occasional shorts working outside this month, even last month. But not today. Probably on the weekend. Back to balmy mid 60s then.

Still winter at 12-13 thousand feet, up the valley but within sight.
