Ha!

The thing is, there's already been a lot of articles that rank Cos highly for retirement, so the cat is already out of the bag.

Yesterday I went to Memorial Park and Prospect Lake and walked the 5K course which takes one past all of the sights and attractions. The view of Pikes Peak and the rest of the Front Range mountains is spectacular and a beautiful backdrop for the park. I parked by the ice complex and skateboard park and once I started my walk, I passed by the memorial of the Tesla Experimental Station Colorado Springs which had the biggest most powerful Tesla coil. Here's a link to an article on the experiments and findings Tesla made here in Cos:

Tesla Colorado Springs Laboratory (1899-1900)

The memorials in the park are impressive and I visited the IAFF Firefighter Memorial, the Veterans Memorial during which the chimes tolled the time and played a couple of songs. I visited the Peace Officers' Memorial next, then walked around Prospect Lake then back to my car. During my walk, it took me by the horseshoe pits and that's one of the nicest I've seen! I take it tournaments are held there? I also passed by the tennis complex which was pretty impressive and also the Olympic Velodrome, but it has the cover on it now, so I couldn't see the track itself. I also walked by a nice softball stadium and basketball courts and the beach house. Memorial Park and Prospect Lake are a nice urban park!

Spurgeon Field in Memorial Park was home to the Colo Spgs Sky Sox in their inaugural year here in 1988 before their stadium was completed on the east side of the city. It also was home to the original Sky Sox teams from 1950-58.

I saw Spurgeon Field from a distance when walking by the tennis complex. Thanks for filling us in on the history of it and that the Sky Sox played there, TCHP!

I just read that the Sky Sox relocated to San Antonio:

On the Road: Goodbye to the Sky Sox

Too bad Cos lost it's AAA baseball team. I also read that a Pioneer League team, the Rocky Mountain Vibes replaced the Sky Sox. The Pioneer League is a rookie league.

My hometown, Rochester, has a AAA baseball team, the Red Wings and they play in the International League

I go there all the time with my doggy to walk & grew up over the years at various events, played in in jazz band concerts (I am a trombonist) & 4th of July, the Balloon Festival, etc ... Had some of my birthday parties at the ice skating rink, go swimming both on the beach & the indoor facility too.

I'm glad you enjoyed it, as I always have!

Way cool that you're a jazz trombonist, coschristi! Although I'm not a musician, I had a good friend in high school that was a jazz musician, piano, trumpet and flugelhorn (he was really good) and he ended up going to the Eastman School of Music and became a high school music teacher and director and continued playing in jazz bands on weekends.

I moved in over Labor Day weekend, so I missed the Balloon Festival but for sure will check it out next year. Memorial Park and Prospect Lake are nice places and I'll walk the 5K route again sometime!
