We ate at the Carolina Ale House off Old Wake Forest Rd in Raleigh today. What a great restaurant. I really hope ours will survive, but fear that it won't just because of the parking. I know they wanted to get away from the downtown crowd but I'm not sure they could have picked a worse spot. Unless the mall does some mass reconfiguring of the parking lot no one will want to try to park there just to eat.
I went by the lot across from the library today and all the heavy equipment is gone, so it appears they were just doing some minor clearing of the lot. What a dissapointment! Was hoping something was finally going to happen there.
Damn. I was hoping that they'll do something with the property. I'm sure it'll be used within a decade though...... But I also love the Cupola Building, I wonder why they put it in a side street kind of location.
I know nothing about the property taxes downtown. But would it be beneficial if the city council looked at modifying the tax rate for "desired businesses" to entice them to come downtown. Some examples would be ISP and Coastal Fog moving downtown.
I saw a sign on the door of the former convenience store at the corner of Dickinson and Wade (one of those that was raided and shut down by the cops) that read "Future Home of Dickinson Fried Chicken."
The McDonald's on Greenville blvd by Parker's Barbecue is scheduled to be torn down and rebuilt very soon. Popeye's is still coming to Greenville and I believe they are still looking at the same location as before the old taco bell building on memorial drive. There is a Dollar General in the making to come up beside the trade wilco heading out of town on 264. And I was told that the Dollar General by the hospital will remain open.
I thought the city passed an ordinance a while back keeping things like that from being built on that edge of town?
With all due respect I'm not sure that a Dollar General is the first thing that should be seen when entering Greenville from the piedmont...
