This is a fascinating article about how the Sherwin Williams HQ project already is spurring redevelopment projects in the Warehouse District, including of the historic Rockefeller Building and 55 Public Square, the former CEI (now FirstEnergy) downtown headquarters, and even new construction. For old timers, this article even has a few paragraphs about what's ahead for the former New York Spaghetti House property on East 9th St, across from Progressive Field.

Downtown Cleveland appears primed to rebloom rapidly for a few years as we exit the Great COVID Pandemic, until the Piper is paid in the Great Stagflationary Depression forecast by Nouriel Roubini, before the Great Climate Migration then re-elevates Greater Cleveland during the remainder of the century into one of the nation's leading metropolitan areas, as Cleveland was in the first half of the 20th century. See post 22 in this thread and the thread in general.

Default Detroit-Superior bridge subway deck may connect downtown to West Side bike paths

Both pedestrian and bike pathways are proposed.

<<In the years since the CUDC study was done, the Lakefront Bikeway Connector was built to reach Gordon Square and Edgewater Park. The Detroit-Superior subway path could connect to it via a public space proposed as part of the planned 16-story Bridgeworks tower, 2429 Superior Viaduct, said Tom McNair, executive director of Ohio City Inc. Ohio City Inc. was a collaborator in the CUDC study in 2013. >>

The new residential developments along Detroit Ave. would more likely attract bike commuters if this plan is implemented.

Default New pathogen center to anchor Innovation District

The Cleveland Clinic's 400,000 square foot Global Center for Pathogen Research & Human Health will anchor the new Innovation District. Neither the building's exact location near Cedar Ave. on the Clinic campus nor the building's design has yet been determined. Construction is expected to begin next spring.

<<Earlier this year, state and local officials announced the launch of the Cleveland Innovation District and the availability of $565 million in public funds to get it rolling.

Not wasting any time, Cleveland Clinic Foundation (CCF) has issued a request for proposals (RFP) to firms to design and build a research campus led by a new Global Center for Pathogen Research & Human Health. The RFP provides a little more clarity on what CCF has in mind for the research campus and pathogens center.

Groundbreaking for the new $500 million, 1,000-employee pathogens center is anticipated in Spring 2022, said Alicia Reale Cooney, CCF's senior manager, corporate communications...>>

https://neo-trans.blogspot.com/2021/...-start-of.html

Buried at the end of the story, several other significant buildings are planned for the Clinic campus and the Hough neighborhood, including a small, grocery only "Neighborhood Market" Meijer store.

<<Also last winter, CCF reissued requests for proposals for its new Neurological Institute and for nearly doubling the size of its 130,000-square-foot Cole Eye Institute. The added Cole Eye building will be located at 2030 E. 105th St. Both expansions were put on hold during the pandemic.

Additional development is coming to the area of Cedar and East 105th. On 3 acres of land at the southeast corner of that intersection, CCF is partnering with Fairmount Properties to develop up to 300 micro-unit apartments, several dozen townhomes and a 40,000-square-foot Meijer grocery store. Financing for the project is still coming together.>>

There had always been a paywall in the print-on-paper days. It just looked more friendly when you had to pay for the paper before walking it away from the newsstand.

A large office at East 66th St. and Euclid Ave. in the MidTown corridor will complement the new Cleveland Foundation building.

<<What may prove to be the largest office building ever built in Cleveland's MidTown corridor is advancing toward a potential construction date early next year.

Wexford Science & Technology, LLC of Baltimore is moving forward in developing a 150,000-square-foot office building and multilevel parking deck at the northwest corner of Euclid Avenue and East 66th Street. The building could house anywhere from 700 to 1,000 office and research workers and add to the city's Health Tech Corridor.>>
