I was actually there the week MJ died... I went by his old house on jackson st near Roosevelt High. Lets just say that there were a lot of people there who otherwise wouldn't be within 100 miles of that area... lol

It is... its in the most expensive city in CA (Atherton) but happens to be a couple blocks away from one of the cheapest in the entire bay area. the bay is a land of contrasts.

Oh, and speaking of Florida... I opened a FL realtors book when I was over there a couple months ago and I saw 7000 + square feet mansions for under a million dollars. At first I thought that they had forgotten to print the extra comma... lol

Lol, probably from the way the economy is right now with all the foreclosures and everything.

This is pretty bad. Whenever you see the obligatory “dope boys” on the corner, you know you’re “there”. I’ve never visited SF, so this is a far cry from the pics that you always see of the city. I like places with some "grit" so I may have to visit sooner than expected-

the south bronx was arguably the worst ghetto america has ever seen. up until the early 90's it was a total wasteland, it literally looked like a major war battle had taken place. around 40% of the pop fled within a matter of yrs (it was actually considered one of the better areas of ny prior to its decline). thankfully, it has turned around and isnt like that no more. there are still gritty areas/ghettos but theres much less crime, new housing everywhere, the folks are taking care of their neighborhoods now. so, big props to the bronxites for making a comeback. its too bad the old stigma is still around. hopefully that'll go away too someday.

this is what it was like back then

Unfortunately, I think these honors go to the Badlands of North Philadelphia.

Wow. Seeing threads like this makes me happy I grew up where I did. I don't take the keys out of the ignition of my car usually...the only time I can remember was on Saturday when I was going to grab some beers at the store, and the only reason I locked the doors was because I had a Playstation3 and some games sitting in plain view on my passenger seat...other than that I never take them out because there's really no point.
