It is third tier at best overall, but definitely the second best in Midwest after Chicago, much better than Minneapolis, St. Louis, Cincinnatti, etc.

Yes. Atlanta, Phoenix, Dallas and Houston are very similiar. They all have some and lack some. I did a rough statistics a while back and they are comparable. They are comparable to Chicago and San Francisco as well. But all of them are among the best shopping cities behind NY and LA, and arguably behind Miami and Vegas.

Well, big city shopping environment for one, but that doesnt matter to serious shoppers.

I will say this, Union Square has some of the largest department stores in the country if not world. The Biggest Neiman Marcus is in SF, as well as the 2nd Biggest Bloomingdales, The 2nd Biggest Nordstrom and the 3rd biggest Macy's(Behind Herald Square-NYC and State Street-Chicago)

Not sure if SFs Saks has any superlatives to brag about but I couldnt say.

Anyway,
SF does pretty well as far as high profile boutiques including a huge renovation that just finished on Gucci's San Francisco Flagship.

I agree with that, but I was just pointing out how some people were say that *Insert City* has blah blah blah, while *insert city* dosen't".

SF does have the Macy's West flagship, but I figure that generally Macy's West is not as good as Macy's East and Macy's North (the former Marshall Fields of Chicago). The quality of a Macy's store generally depends on what store it was before it was bought by Macy's. As far as Nordstrom goes, I was not aware that SF's is the 2nd largest. Great information. I do know that LA's Nordstrom was the second one to open a Gucci boutique after Seattle's flagship.

Yes these are not very convincing unless you provide a serious statistics but they provide some information at least.

That makes a lot of sense. Macy's out west is a little 'down market' compared to Nordstrom.

Great insight!
Nordstrom bought some real classy ones here-I.Magnin and Bullock's were very upscale California stores(I miss them) and they fit Nordstrom quite nicely.

It opened as the largest Nordstrom in 1986 and remained biggest until Seattle's Flagship was renovated. Its grand opening day remains the most profitable in Nordstrom company history.

WoW..Nordstrom has Gucci--moving up they are.

I went to the party for Gucci's grand reopening here--its a big store for Gucci.

My obvious vote goes for NY Metro with LA probably at a close second.
NY metro of course. NYC is a trendsetter. So many types of superb clothes can be found at NYC.
