It works both ways. You guys come here because your currency is worth more than the dollar, but we also go there to get better deals. There's no way I would have bought Turkish rugs here in NY. We got amazing deals over there.
As for the metro NY equivalent of Bal Harbor, the same company has the same type of outdoor mall in the NY area. In fact, the NY version is the original, and has higher sales per square foot. It's called the Americana at Manhasset. It's on the North Shore of Long Island, on the Miracle Mile corridor (just past Queens).
When we're talking about smaller, boutique-laden centers, there probably isn't a center on earth more upscale than the Americana Manhasset.
Also, the Americana does not just have store branches for its various boutiques. It's stores are almost all flagship sized, and are often the largest North American location outside of Manhattan (or sometimes, third behind Manhattan and Beverly Hills).
