But on the other hand, PA has alot of distressed communities too. Parts of the eastern and southwestern coal regions are very depressing and struggling. Many steel towns are just shells of their former selves.

I believe the wealth of the Philadelphia suburbs (and to some extent Pittsburgh's suburbs) keep PA from being below average.

However, I still prefer PA over FL.

Pennsylvania certainly has its share of depressing areas...no debate on that.....but Florida's real estate market is pretty depressing too.

Some pesky relative keeps begging me to move to Florida (misery loves company) and on paper it looks good. I can get a job for 10K less than what I'm making but I can sell my 330K Pennsylvania and buy a house just as big (but built like crap which I won't notice until I live in it) for $150K. What the heck, what do I have to lose. That was 20 years ago. Here is today. That 330K house up North could be sold but a similar home in Florida costs 350K (that is built like crap) and I now have to pay 2K a year in homeowners insurance. So now I mind taking the pay cut, and Florida is now overbuilt (still ugly) and ridden with crime. There is no sense of neighborhood, no main street with the same bakery and cleaner, infact no character and I feel like a foreigner and people look at me funny if I speak English. What a difference 20 years makes, I'd never consider Florida and never will again.
That must be why everyone bashes Florida so much on this forum. Is it jealousy? If you don't care to live in an area or state, you state your reasons why and move on. You don't spend all day on a website bashing it.

I agree.

You are right, I feel sorry for the many that can not escape Florida. Many are stuck there and can not leave because they are in utter poverty now and many of the jobs pay so low that it is impossible to save enough to leave. I have a highly educated friend that lives in Orlando that is stuck there because his $12 and hour "professional" banking job does not allow him to save money. But the worst are the poor families now stuck in tent cities. I truly hope that they are able to leave and move to a state where they can provide a better life for their families and where their skills will pay an acceptable wage.
