Finest Cities would be Seattle, San Diego and Vancouver with SF and Chicago right behind them.

HAHA! I had this arguement with my wife, i told her San Diego was "self titled"... America's finest blah blah.. lol she scrunches her face everytime.. But San Diego is nice, its a very clean version of LA... and well... it does have America's best weather.. its also probably the Military capital of this country (Pendleton, Miramar, Coronado Island) next to DC... but Seattle shouldnt be a comparison.. it looks nice but their weather sucks..

I'd say that it's "hotness" has cooled down since the 90's. That was Seattle's height of "hotness".

San Diego wins for climate, cleanliness, laidback lifestyle, and hot women.

Seattle wins for better and more diverse architecture, cultural activities, and coffee.

Both cities have a great downtown: waterfront location, revitialized historic district, nightlife, pedestrian orientation, etc.

Overall, I pick San Diego b/c I'd go nuts in Seattle's climate.

A few more things:

1: Open Space:
San Diego gets points for Balboa Park and Mission Bay. Both are great urban parks. Balboa is bigger than Central Park in NYC. And has some very nice historical buildings and green space. Mission Bay is gorgeous waterfront areas with boating and biking, etc.

2: Culture in San Diego?
Yes, the Old Globe theatre and La Jolla Playhouse have very solid theater productions. Ok, does not match San Francisco or Seattle but better than people give it credit for.

Yeah, but Seattle might come back as the culture is becoming more retro 90's with a neo-grunge era.
