The police departments hadn't finished reporting the complete data yet, where some suspicious deaths might be changed to a homicide or something like that. The numbers have definitely been updated from a week ago.

The city of Charleston’s homicide rate was down 45%, falling from 16 in 2021 to 9 in 2022. There were 16 in 2020 as well. At 150,000 (2020 census), how many per 100,000 is 9?

6. The formula to calculate is # homicides divided by population, then multiplied by 100,000.

That means, if my math is correct, DC had about 3.3 murders per square mile in 2022, versus Jackson's paltry 1.1 murder per square mile in 2022. (Suddenly I don't feel quite as bad for Jackson, which as recently as 2009 had just 37 murders or just .3 murders per square mile per year...i.e. one-tenth the murder rate of DC in 2022). My god, DC is more of a cess pool than I realized...

Now I'm wondering what other cities have been hiding behind high population density in their murder statistics, when on a per square mile basis they are war zones.
If you really want to go there...something like 60% (it may be higher) of homicide are in Anacostia/EOTR which is like 1/3 of the DC's total area.

But Jackson is still a much larger cesspool - DC is just a tale of two cities, Jackson? The whole city is a dump and that downtown? It has zero redeeming value. It just feel eerie and empty outside of maybe 4 blocks.

BTW...on random Google Map search Jackson has areas like this within city limit:

https://www.google.com/maps/@32.3565...7i16384!8i8192
https://www.google.com/maps/@32.2394...7i16384!8i8192

Good luck finding that in DC...(Not counting city parks like Rock Creek Park)
