Chicago- 572 (19 killed during the week of 10/17-10/23 ending with 564 total)
3 killed on Wednesday, one a 15 year old male shot multiple times in the torso and leg by someone driving in a white jeep in the Greater Grand Crossing community on the south side. There was also a fatal shooting in Uptown on the north side, where a 25 year old man was shot in the back by someone in a black jeep (what a coincidence). In the Chatham community, a 25 year old woman was fatally shot in the head and leg while standing on a sidewalk.
Make that 4 killed on Wednesday. A 7 year old boy was being struck by a stray bullet going through a home in the East Humboldt Park neighborhood. He was taken to a hospital and went in surgery but didn't make it. smh
As of september 30th, Compton, Ca homicides are at 13 which is down 55% over 2021 but the violent crime rate is now up over 16%. Property crime rate up over 25% and total part 1 crimes up over 22%.
Compton is still a quite dangerous city to live in, that has not changed.

That might be one of the highest reduction in murder rate even if still considered violent.

My strong suit isn't math but I believe the LA county sheriffs did their percentages wrong. The chart says Compton was at 29 last year and 13 this year, so would that be an over 100% decrease?
After a 2 y/o girl was found dead in a VB Oceanfront hotel room back in August with her mom who attempted suicide by overdose, it was initially child abuse charges. Now 2 months later, the charges have been upgraded to 2nd degree murder. That's 16 for the year.

You subtract 13 from 29 to get the difference (16), then 16/29 x 100 and you'll get 55%. As it's impossible to have an over 100% decrease, it would be 0 murders; a pipe dream.
Yea it is. Its just in an area peppered with not-as-nice blocks.. Its a (former?) gang area with a lot of Section 8 basically. But there are mostly nice blocks.
2 killed during a homecoming celebration near A&T's campus. One 19 year old female student, one 15 year old male hs student. That makes 39 for the year in Greensboro.
300 days have passed in 2022. Out curiosity, I tallied the number of days in which no murders occurred in Chicago using sun-times tracking, and it turned out to be 67 days. That leaves the number of days when a murder occurred to the remaining 233 days, averaging at least two killed on such occasions. It's just the average; there have been many times four or more have been killed in a day, just like on Wednesday and last weekend. When the city saw 800 murders in 2021, there were maybe at least a month worth when it saw no one murdered, but it is those instances of multiple people being killed in a day that's preventing the city from having a murder rate closer to New York City and continues to have the most homicides ever year since 2012.
New York city in 2021 had a total of 488 murders; adjusted to population that amounts to a murder rate of 5.5/100,000. For Chicago to see an identical rate, it can have only 150, give or take. Given the way things are for many decades, it appears practically an impossible task to accomplish for a city that sees at least 400 even in a relatively peaceful year. Keep in mind, this compares to a NYC that saw its highest number of murders in over a decade; but if I were to use the lowest rates for NYC pre-Covid, then Chicago will need to reduce its numbers fewer than 100; Toronto in a nutshell. But what does a Chicago with 5.5 murder rate looks like? Look no further than the north side, which if I were to tally numbers from last year and especially this year, it would come out around that figure, maybe a little higher at 6 per 100k. The last time the city as whole had a rate in that range was 1943 when it was at 4.9/100k or 169 homicides for a population of 3.4/3.5 million. 1940s Chicago was perhaps at its most prosperous; coming out of prohibition, gang homicides being at all time low, and the population was soaring and the economy on a boom. I don't think Chicago will see rates like this again without implementing policies that would actually deter a lot of would-be criminals from committing murders and the south and west sides becoming prosperous.
