San Francisco is no lightweight in this area, but Dallas trumps SF in shopping

Dallas might have more stuff, but SF offers a more refined shopping experience.

SF is a Prime Rib with Cabernet reduction sauce.
Dallas is a double cheeseburger.

I think it depends on what you want to buy. In the US, my favorite type of saki, for instance, is only found in San Francisco. If I were looking for a great deal on a nice suit I'd go to Dallas.

This is the one area where Dallas can actually best San Fran. There are few cites in the US that have better shopping than Dallas. The only ones that leap to mind are NYC, LA, Miami, and (maybe) Vegas.

It all depends.

Well, as far as popular opinion:

SF ranks 3rd behind NY and Chicago as far as shopping according to 80,000 readers of Conde Nast Magazine.

Dallas didn't make the top 10.

I think that it all depends on what a person is looking for as well. Dallas beats San Francisco as far as shopping malls for sure, while SF is nearly incomparable as far as downtown shopping and neighborhood shopping.

As far as local boutiques, I don't think anywhere in the US except NY and LA beat SF. I participated in a weeklong event a few months ago that highlighted local boutiques and literally was so impressed by their various offerings that I spent more money that week than I did on Christmas shopping. LOL

Anyway here is a list of 100 independent boutiques in the Bay Area worth visiting.

Yeah, this is the sort of thing SF really excels at, one of a kind merchandise that is high quality and very unique, not hermes scarves that you can buy in 20 other cities(including SF btw)

That said, downtown SF has 500+ stores which runs the gamut from the highest tier designers all the way down to consignment and wholesale places. You really cannot go wrong in SF as far as shopping.
