But so what. Does the city of Dallas have great shopping? You and I know the answer is yes.

The post above did nothing to prove me wrong. Why? Because you know what I'm saying to be true .....

If you want to spend all day inside of a mall in the suburbs! I like to shop 3 ways. 1) inside gigantic malls 2) outlet malls 3) urban shopping

Dallas lacks urban shopping. The Bay Area has all 3!

A lot of this thread has discussed Stonestown as San Francisco's big mall. I'm not sure why people (not Lunatic) have ignored the Westfield on Powell as San Francisco's big mall (not to mention Macy's, Neiman Marcus, Embarcadero Center, and Bloomingdale's). The City alone has big malls in spades, not to mention the big malls and outlet centers around the Bay Area. I think that the more interesting "urban" shopping experiences are found in neighborhood retail centers--Fillmore, Valencia, Hayes, Castro, Haight, 9th, Union, Clement, Sacramento.

Also, considering shopping beyond just clothing, I think San Francisco has a very nice selection and distribution of other kinds of shopping: antiques, rugs, art & art supplies, music instruments, interior decor, etc.

No, the subject was 'suburban' style malls and Stonestown is that.

San Francisco Center is a mall but is more like a downtown shopping arcade(granted, massive) that is quite urban.

Perhaps not from the outside--but once you go in, I do think it looks no different from a very nice suburban mall. That's my view of it, at least.

right so some of the corridors are similar to suburban malls, but the mall itself is not suburban because it's in the middle of downtown in one of the most vibrant urban environments on this continent.

Most suburban malls aren't 4-5 stories tall and have a subway station . The SF Shopping Centre feels and is very vertical compared to a typical suburban mall.

Dallas' NorthPark Center is probably one of the best malls in the USA
