Dallas does have urban shopping..probably not as much as SanFran but we have it. Knox/henderson, main street ,west village.

SF for the stuff I want. Some of the best record shopping around (along with Portland).

I can't believe you of all people are defending SF. Surprisingly, I agree with you. Dallas has some amazing high end stores however SF has all that and a bunch of international botiques. The suburban malls in Dallas have the Bay Area beat though. I think SF wins this one.

Record shopping is still quite good in San Francisco if you add in Berkeley. It was much better in the 90's when there were more independent record shops. Now it's either Rasputins or Amoeba. I find Portland to be a bit better overall. Crossroads Records in Portland is the best shop I've visited for a long time. Same with Bop Street Records in Seattle.
