And yeah, I will stick to my density figures. Facts are good. I know they bother those who think attached housing are all that makes a place urban, but oh well.
You are the one always bashing people, who have been to LA numerous times, for not really knowing LA. And yet here you are voicing an opinion about what a place that you have obviously never been to looks like. Classic Mr Nonsense.

Hahaha...some punk threatened to shoot me just a couple of weeks ago for no apparent reason. Chicago definately has crime issues although it is heavily concentrated in a few 'select' neighborhoods. At least it isn't the 90's where we were clocking a cool 900 murders per year.

At best, Coral Cables is again, like Glendale. And again, it is a mini-CBD (looks like two for Coral Gables, on on the main drag and the other in the NE corner) surrounded by very low density tract housing that is exclusively SFHs. The biggest difference is Glendale is at least 1/3 apartments, so you get these high densities of 20-30k ppsm in some of the tracts (others are around 10-15k).

What do you mean, one article? The city of Chicago's total homicides are comparable to the whole of Los Angeles County (9.8 million people). Again, this has been well-documented.

Your hypothesis is off as well--L.A. has been getting bashed for decades, long before city-data came into being. We just beat Detroit here, LOL! L.A. Most Hated: L.A. Second Most Hated City in U.S., Poll Finds - ktla.com

Which is fine, no one is asking anyone to like the place. Just don't sell nonsense that moderately-sized cities like DC are more urban and "big city" than L.A. That's just ridiculous.

So no one did answer my question since MDallstar said LA needs both density and a dense built environment to be a real city than shouldn't the same be said of DC with its embarassing population density

Glendale is 59% multi-unit housing. It is too big and dense for Coral Gables to compare in either category.

Anyways, wtf would you know about Coral Gables? Aren't you the braniac who called it a "beach community" a few months ago? Lol... Stick to your density figures.
I don't think I agreed with you that Hollywood looks like CG, I think you just wore me down to agree with you on some point. I can't remember what I agreed with, but looking at the two areas I don't see much in common. Even the most urban-looking parts of Coral Gables (right around Ponce De Leon and Coral Way) look more like a smaller, less-dense Santa Monica than Hollywood.

All I was saying was, Chicago isn't treated any differently by any media than other city. There is no "sweetening" the fact that there are a lot of homicides that go on in the suburbs.

The hate for LA comes with the kind of people that live there. I can't tell you how many times I've heard... "Well, I'm from Cali so..." to make other people sound inferior because Cali is some paradise that everyone wishes they were living in. That's my thought of it anyway. I see the same stuff going on here on this forum.

I agree about the last part... that's also ignorance on the part of some posters here.
