The other day I watched his show because I must admit, his voice soothes and relaxes me. I get to the end and I was mortified, he looks at the screen and addresses the viewers, his exact words were

"Here's a simple prayer you can say:

(If you say this and mean it in your heart you will be saved and understand why we believe what we do.)

"Dear God I know I'm a sinner, I know I am not where I want to be, and I want your forgiveness! I believe that Jesus died on the cross to pay the price for my sins.

Please wash me clean from all sin, shame, and guilt, come into my life Jesus to be my Lord and Savior. I ask this in your name Jesus.

Amen!" If you prayed that prayer then we believe you are saved.

No where in the entire segment did he talk about sin and repentance and where is a sinner's prayer in scripture?
That's it, that's all I have to do? Jesus was wrong, the gate to heaven IS broad.

Fundy,

If you say that prayer and mean it in your heart then turning from sin in repentance is next natural step.

If you don't mean it, you remain in your sins and you might as well have said the alphabet.

It all comes down to 'Did you mean it when you said it?'

If you did, things change.

You don't quit sinning BEFORE you are saved. And you don't repent until the Holy Spirit indwells you to lead you to that conviction.

Do you disagree?

As you know - the answer is simple for those who have ears to hear. Modern Christianity is a fraud and a counterfeit. They preach to tickle the ears of those Christians who continue to sin willfully.

But don't take my word for it...

1 John 2:4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

If the following is said from the heart:

Quote:
Please wash me clean from all sin, shame, and guilt, come into my life Jesus to be my Lord and Savior. I ask this in your name Jesus.
And Jesus is truly someone's Lord and Savior, repentance follows naturally.

You disagree with this?

I don't see the sinner's prayer as the next logical step......I don't see it in scripture, gives people a false sense of salvation not to mention an abhorrent teacher who teaches them nothing but how to feel good. It's a double whammy!

The sinner's prayer is nothing but man made. It cannot be found in scripture. I agree with you, Fundy...it's a false sense of salvation.

Sorry Alpha, but I disagree with you. I think repentance comes before salvation. We can be sorry for what we've done and turn from that error before we are saved.

So if I just listened to you share the gospel with me, how would you end the conversation?

How do I become saved?

Every prayer I say is a sinners prayer..I am not perfect, but I can still come as I am to him..God hears the very first prayer of sincere person regardless of his "sin status"

I would ask you if you believe what you've just heard, if you're sorry for the sins you've committed, and are you ready to turn from them. If you answered yes, we would either call a church, or if possible, I would baptize you, right after I asked for your confession and you confessed with the mouth that you believe.

All of which, I can back with scripture.

None of us are perfect but can still go to Him. Sinners praying to God is different than the "sinner's prayer" taught to achieve salvation.
