To begin, I have to confess to y'all that I'm no big fan of Televangelists. In fact, most of them make me uncomfortable at the least, and disgusted and angry with them at the most, as it just seems pretty obvious to me that they have dollar signs in their eyes rather than the Light of True Faith.
But there's this guy down here in Texas I sort of like. He seems sincere and he's not too much with the Fire and Brimstone, which suits me fine.
So I was just wanting to get your opinions of Joel Osteen. What do you guys like and/or dislike about him.
Thanks for your interest!

The Joel Osteen slogan...

"You can do it, we can help"

... and here is my book you should buy.

Having actually attended a couple of the services on occasion, there is definitely a more "churchy" vibe than you get from watching on TV.

Sermon topics are very safe. Seems to have a bunch of ministry events during the week - including a full Spanish worship service.

I know he has said some things "not doctrinal" on occasion, but I will leave him alone on it. God will deal with him accordingly. From what I have seen, Christ is preached in the assembly.

Don't know the man personally ... However he pretty much admitted in one interview that i watched of him that his ministry is more about "self help" and "positive thinking" than any real consideration of the scriptures and teachings of the church. Still he also admitted that he could not accept that God would allow anyone to be damned for ever and that he had a much more inclusive world view.

Compared to the rest of em', he's a cupcake IMHO - if you are in the market for that sort of thing(not my cup o' tea) ... He's just cashing in on a lucrative and fruitful demographic; people are ripe for it.

Default strait to hades

He is leading people strait to hades. What is worse than other modern evils like pornography or drug dealers is that this guy guy is leading people with good intentions to hell. His church is not Jesus' church and nor is it Christian worship.

The way to heaven is not through wealth building or a self help group for those on earth. The way to heaven is the narrow way -the golden mean- he does not even touch on christian morality.

Modern evils? Are you serious?

Everyone is headed "straight to Hades".

You included ...

Golden mean? ... The golden mean is the Pythagorean theorem.

If they aint teaching about sin hell and condemnation of the world most Christians dont want to hear it ...

He is a good motivational speaker. That's pretty much it.

I like him, he's about faith, not so much religion. He gets you feeling hopeful when you're down. He's helped my life and I didn't have to buy a thing, but someone did give me his book as a gift when I was severely depressed.
