Religion and the Bible was outlawed in the early 1960s in public schools across the country, along with prayers too. I think that we need to bring it back into schools, because I think it would help with all of the teen pregnancies and drug uses and alcohol and homicide rates which are increasing. I read and saw graphs where they showed levels for each of the things I listed above, immediately after the government outlawed religion in public schools, the rate for everyone of these things went up, but they were stable and declining before they outlawed it. Could outlawing religion in schools be the cause of society's problems today?

1. There are many generations in history that were worse than the modern one.
2. Read the First Amendment as many times as it takes you to understand it. This is not a theocracy.

I agree, secularism keeps away the temptation of theocracies, and I'm a person who beleives 100% in God.

I do think though that some spiritual values should be taught in schools, because most young people are left unarmed after finishing school, and don't have a sword of wisdom to face life or a clear idea of what's the meaning of life

Nope.

The zeitgiest of the 1960's...If anything, religion in America expanded; broadened.

Look to sociological trends. Shifts in cultural paradigms. Religion was most certainly a part of that.

No, I do not think that eliminating religion in schools resulted in all that you cited...

Take gentle care.

I am very much a Christian and I am totally opposed to putting religion back in the schools.

Moral and ethical behavior is expected in all the major world religions. Lets respect each other and support core moral standards and personal accountability without imposing our faith on the masses.

Traditionally, Baptists were opposed to religion in the schools, now many of them want it.

But, I would ask, which religion and prayer do you want taught?

No, the problem came in the breakdown of the family and the failure of the family to teach the Bible, along with the "anything goes" and "I'm number 1" attitudes.

The biggest exacerbation to the problem was the Great Society programs that rewarded bad behavior and eventually evolved into punishing good behavior.

I have nothing against allowing the Bible in schools, as long as you will allow the Hindu Gita, the Muslim Qur'an, and the Buddhist sutras in as well. I think more people should read the Bibble and think about it for themselves.

Ignorance is the root of all of society's problems, but that's just my view.

Homeschooling is the best alternative to secularism and the moral decay of children.

godspeed,

Whose religion? Whose prayers?

Prayer is denominational in nature. What is perfectly acceptable for a Baptist might be wrong to a Catholic or Episcopalian.

So when somebody talks about wanting prayer in schools, what they're really saying is that they want to have THEIR prayers said in school.

In a word, no.

The study you read doesn't seem quite right either, considering the societal change that started during WWII and continued thereafter.

Religion is best instilled at the family level, not public schools.
