Both fundamentalist and liberal theology are lopsided. ALL of John 3:16 should be believed and preached.
No. Not pulled out of the context in which it was written to be used alone or hung up to be seen by the cameras at a sporting event. The misuse of this verse has been bandied about to condemn those who do not "believe" for way too long. It's another example of the problem with biblical literalism.

Maybe the problem is something other, i.e. people generally reject the truth that Jesus spoke of both, law's condemnation & gospel's salvation
The fact that people may misuse both it does not negate that all of John 3:16-36 is still the truth which Jesus factually summarized:
"Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life,
but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on them."
btw: If you want to make John 3:16 a stand alone verse, then it is known as being the gospel in a nutshell ... not the condemnation verse in a nutshell.

The real problem is Christians who believe that lie.

You get a different message by reading the rest of chapter 3?
Nice try. If you knew the passage you were referring to, why did you hesitate?
Address my response in post #112.
No-one can say that I didn't try ............. oh well.
I already have Jimmie.
There was no hesitation, I wrongly assumed that someone who rigidly defends the Bible would actually be familiar with it's entirety, not just the 'good bits' that your priest/pastor instructs you to read.

its not the basic teachings like this one. If there is a place we go, the universe decides it. But where do we go but the universe? i doubt it looks anything like what the limited human brain can dream up.
The universe is quantum computing. lmao, and we have fundies thinking its all in a book. We are the universe having a human experience. I bet its chuckles t itself sometimes.

I made a decision some time ago not to argue scripture back and forth with literalists on here or in real life. I just don't accept a faith that rules through fear and threats.
But this is the sort of discussion non-literalists might have on that scripture.

You remind me off Psalm 115:6 that says in part "They have ears but cannot hear. Eyes yet cannot see."
That's you. Keep your head firmly planted in the darkness & you'll never learn a thing.
It's called ignorance Jimmie. Is that really how you want to live your life? Shrieking 'You've got nothing!' from a position of absolute ignorance? Like a chimp flinging his poo from the treetops?
