The average median home price in San Diego is gonna break 1 million soon. Atlanta has absolutely shot up in COL, so many people are getting displaced there. Even the more expensive parts of Chicago are dirt cheap compared to these cities.
Totally agree. Chicago is so cheap with amazing amenities. We do not have an affordable housing problem in Chicago.

Atlanta??? Tampa???? ATL is cheap compared to Chicago. The size of houses WITH lawns and everything are much cheaper than Chicago. Tampa is not expensive either. PLENTY of affordable housing in both Atlanta and Tampa. Was just looking at homes.

People seem to ignore that the property taxes in Illinois make buying a SFH like buying a condo everywhere else, because the taxes in Illinois are equal to or higher than taxes + HOA fees for condos in 90% of states. Except you don’t get any benefits like you do with HOA fees. One need only look to nearby NWI which is no longer cheap outside of the bad areas, MOSTLY due to the favorable tax climate there. I mean, $5-600k homes in downtown Valparaiso? Crazy.

Lol suburbia...do you know how low the pay is in Atlanta? You get paid alot more in Chicago. Minimum wage in Atlanta $7.25 vs $15 in Chicago. Not only are home in Atlanta more expensive, you get paid less! There's a reason Atlanta is #1 in the country for income inequality. The median home price in Tampa is $363,000 vs $324,00 in Chicago.

And these cities should be far cheaper. Chicago is a world class city. Atlanta and Tampa are oversized suburbs. Strip mall after strip mall...yuck

Nice try…..Median listing price: Chicago $324K, Atlanta $249K, Tampa $233K.

Homes in Chicago are more expensive than Atlanta or Tampa. Now I’m not factoring in income, just prices. And whether ATL and Tampa are cities or oversized suburbs, that’s a matter of personal taste and preferences. I’m not saying that ATL or Tampa have anywhere near the number of urban amenities as Chicago. They don’t. But I just did a search for 3-4 bedroom SFHs in Atlanta and Tampa. You can find those in the 300-400k range with lawns and everything. A similar house in Chicago would be muuuuch more expensive.

Anyone getting paid $7.25 in Georgia is either working in a convenience store in Albany, or washing dishes in Brunswick. They also aren't in the housing market in Atlanta, where they can't find people to fill jobs that pay much more than $15.00 an hour.

Yet you seem to be obsessed with Atlanta. Why? I'm beginning to suspect that you have never been here, considering your recent totally ignorant posting history. You've been passing yourself off as someone that lives in Atlanta, and now Chicago. Which is it?

I'm beyond convinced that you're a former banned poster that has reinvented yourself with a new username. I smell a Troll.

The south and west sides (2/3 of the city) is filled with cheap housing. The only places you transplants want to live is the northside then complain the whole city is expensive like that.

2/3 of the city is affordable, and still you have people pretending like there's a housing crisis in Chicago. Absolutely bonkers. Sorry there aren't SFH in Lincoln Park for $250k.

Stop it as usual in forums. Stats do not bash your former city of Atlanta. We have to avoid thin-skinned and stay calm.
