Here is another link to a different article:

Police Take 5 Into Custody After Road Rage Incident - News Story - WSOC Charlotte (http://www.wsoctv.com/news/22838139/detail.html - broken link)

Please note: this article says the altercation started at CAMDEN PINEHURST APARTMENTS. So this doesn't sound like road rage to me. And we have no clue as to whether any of the teens involved in this incident live there, were hanging out there, were visiting there - or what.

ETA: watch the video - it helps to understand the events.

My question is - why are the police not saying more about the fact that underage teens had an automatic weapon with them? Geeezzz. Crazy stuff.

It appears from info in the link I added that indeed, police are calling it an AK47.

See - that's the thing. There is a lot more to this story. However, it does confuse me that the teen who was injured asked someone to get the license tag, as that seems to incidate that he did NOT know the other teens.

Also - what kind of confrontation took place at the apartment complex? Does the injured teen live there?

My thoughts exactly.

And with five others in the other car?

Someone was playing Macho Man?

The reporter called it an AK-47.

And I have heard cops call some rifles AK47's even when they weren't.
Makes for a great story and raising emotions.

Would have liked to have seen a better picture of the weapon as I feel that accuracy is important in reporting.

Why is it of such importance whether it was a knock off or the real thing? It is just as troubling that TEENS HAVE GUNS THEY ARE USING, regardless of whether it is a knockoff or the real thing. Very little is even being said about TEENS WITH GUNS.

It is important because the press and the anti-gun and anti-second amendment people use certain weapons to drum up hysteria about so-called "assault weapons."

Those of us that understand the anti-gun culture want truth and accuracy in stories pertaining to crimes committed with firearms.

I am concerned with the fact that the story says that charges have not been filed.

Why not?

A teen pulling a gun on someone and no charges?
Wow, I bet they learned their lesson, huh!

Or is just another story that was terribly written as well as reported?

Totally get your concerns . . . and agree with them. I hadn't viewed the story from that angle (anti-gun lobby). In light of that, yes, I can see why you wanted a clarification on what type of gun that actually was.

I hope we see follow up on this story, as I want to know why folks were not thrown in the pokey immediately for discharging a firearm = and POSSESSION of a firearm, too.

The way this incident is portrayed, it actually makes the police look very very nonchalent - and I seriously doubt they were so unconcerned.

Teenagers should not be riding around with guns whether they are AK-47s or BB guns. Period....Paragraph!!!!

Agree.
There are plenty of knock-offs of SKSs, AR15s, or AK47s - all are SEMI-automatic and very cheaply made.

A parent or adult somewhere in all this will ultimately need to be held accountable for allowing underage access to a gun.

It does not matter WHAT type of gun it was, but it will be spun that it was a tactical assault or some exotic weapon, pushing for more gun control.
