well i dont go there often but when i do, yes there prices are in line with what HT charges, they just don't have a reputation of a hi price grocer
I'm sorry, but as someone who used to go chain-to-chain to create comparative pricing surveys as part of my occupation, I'm going to have to declare that observation as nonsense.

not nonsense at all

Then you should know that Food Lion's prices (and often quality) are much lower than Harris Teeter's. I imagine that any shopper that knows both stores would attest to this.

but thats just perception, if you actually compare, they're much closer in price then you'd think.
Food Lion used to have lower prices back in the 80's-90's, but not so much anymore. Back then they used to always advertise lowest food prices - LFPINC. Today they just seem to be lower quality, but not so much lower prices. Although they are currently trying to upgrade their quality control and overall image. I think now for lowest prices, the choices are Walmart and Aldi. And for higher quality, you have HT and Publix.
Food Lion used to be here in Florida but they closed down in my area after the local news did a story how they were selling food that was way past their expiration date. They would take old potato salad or whatever and repackage it in a new container with a new expiration date on it. Several people got sick from it. I went into Food Lion once here and it was so dirty looking I left.
Other than cheap seltzer (so hard to find in Charlotte) I see no reason for Foodlion to exist anymore. Walmart has done quite the number on them and their corporate owner, that outfit in Denmark, seems unable to turn it around. Here in Charlotte area, Compare Supermarkets, has also punched them hard too. Walmart, in fact, has them targeted as well as they have now included FL in the targeted adverts they were doing against Harris Teeter.
It's really a shame. I used to like Foodlion a lot when it was still called Foodtown, owned by the Kepner (sp)family in Salisbury and he would come on TV and do those LFPINC commercials. At that time this was true and they ran clean and well staffed stores too.
